Life & Work with Noelle Burks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noelle Burks.

Hi Noelle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Noelle Burks, I am a Colorado native, a wife, and a mother to a beautiful baby boy. I have had a love for fitness my entire life, however, I did not get serious about my health until after I gave birth to my son. Shortly after my son was born, I suffered from severe postpartum anxiety, insomnia, and self-esteem issues, as most new mothers experience. I began working with the goal of getting in shape for my wedding, it was then I realized what a huge impact it had on my mental and physical health. Anxiety was no longer a day-long battle, but something I could control with daily exercise. I began to sleep better, feel healthier, happier, and all-around a better person, mother, and wife. Fitness not only saved my life, but had me falling in love with life again. I became a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, one of the top rated trainer certification programs in the country. I did so in hopes of helping as many people as I can reach their fitness goals. I firmly believe the greatest gift you can give yourself is the gift of good health.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There is a saying, “Nothing good comes easy.” and I can tell you right now, that starting my fitness career scared the crap out of me. Not only was it a completely new industry for me, it’s seen as being dominated by strong, confident, successful individuals, whereas I felt so little. During my days of working part time while taking care of my son and our home; going to school seemed like an impossibly daunting task. However, I felt in my heart that if I truly wanted it, I would do anything it took to get it. The dream of achieving my goal was my ultimate driving force. I wanted to do this to prove to myself that I could, and to prove to my family that I had what it took. I had finally found something that I was passionate about, and I wasn’t willing to lose it. I thought, “It’s all or nothing. Either I go all-in, or forever regret what could have been”. And so the journey began! My mornings started early, and my evenings went well beyond midnight. Some days I just wanted to cry and hide in a dark room, praying that all the school and house work would just disappear.

However, I knew those things weren’t going anywhere, and that I had to fight to get closer to my goals. I spent all my free time reading my study material, going to the gym to practice, calling friends to let me train them, and doing anything I could to advance myself as a trainer. I would wake up early to take my son out for a couple hours, just so he would be good and worn-out by the time we got home, and I could study uninterrupted. I would watch workout videos on my phone while doing dishes. After a few stressful months I finally was able to take the personal training exam and get my certification, but that is when the real work began. Not only am I knowing to the industry, but I got my start in the middle of a global pandemic when most gyms weren’t even open. Now, not only am I trying to get people to pay for my newly acquired services, but also trying to feel comfortable in a gym again. After having a few interviews at local gyms, I was hired at Prestige Fitness to gain some experience and get my name out as a personal trainer. Every day is a struggle, but I really can’t expect anything less, because like they say; Nothing good comes easy”.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a personal trainer, and I specialize in resistance training and weight loss. I am known for my high energy, and my fun, motivating personality. I am most proud of my determination and grit; I always seem to get it done no matter how hard it may be. I do not give up easily, if at all, and I always try my hardest to be the best at everything I do.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
If there is anything, I have learned from the Covid-19 Crisis, it is that your health should be one of the most important things in your daily life. Your chances of surviving COVID with minimal effects go up exponentially if you are more physically fit. I think that it is of paramount importance to start taking care of yourself, now more than ever.
