Life and Work with Paige McLaughlin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige McLaughlin.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My career in real estate started almost three years ago after I left my career in the financial services industry. Being a Colorado native, I have always appreciated this beautiful state and have a passion for homes and design. My psychology degree and subsequent 11-year career in the financial services industry prepared me for my real estate career now – working under tight deadlines, multitasking within various projects and details, working with all different personality and management types, and most importantly, it provided me with the tools to structure and organize my business as a true business (marketing, competitive intelligence, products, services, and much more!)

While I was in the financial services industry, I loved the people I worked with and my role, but I had a calling to do something more – to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives through partnering with them on a very personal investment – real estate!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My first years in the real estate industry, 2018 and 2019, were my years of learning and personal growth through many challenges and obstacles. Those challenges, whether it was learning a new industry and business, starting to market a new custom home community from the ground up, or working in the new construction world which is typically a male-dominated industry provided me with countless obstacles AND countless opportunities.

With that said, I like to think of each struggle or obstacle as an opportunity. We cannot control what happens, but we can control our reaction to it. My goal today is to approach an obstacle with a positive mindset and see it as an opportunity for growth. Yes, it can hurt. Yes, it can be difficult. However, every hurdle I have overcame had a valuable lesson attached to it. My advice for women who are starting their journey would to be to treat the journey like a wedding day – you know something will go wrong and it’s okay! At the end of the day, week, month or year, you’ll look back and recognize the obstacle served a purpose and you are stronger for it.

Please tell us about Mile High Living RE/MAX Alliance and Fox Hill Development.
My husband and I have a real estate team called “Mile High Living” through our RE/MAX Alliance Castle Pines Brokerage. My husband is a second-generation REALTOR, and after many years of thought and consideration, I joined his business. Little did I know after leaving my corporate career, that we would be asked to partner with a residential developer to exclusively market a custom home community in Franktown, Colorado! This special community, Fox Hill, is actually the property my husband and my sister-in-law grew up on for decades and the place we were married ten years ago. My husband’s family purchased this historic 1912, 400 acre property several years ago with the hopes to create a community themselves. After the recession, my husband’s family decided to list the property for sale and it was sold to a local developer whom our family has worked with for many years. After a series of circumstances, we were offered the opportunity to be the marketing agents for the community. Now, my primary role is to share the history, legacy, and opportunity Fox Hill has for our future residents (and neighbors)! My husband, three daughters and I live in the community and are deeply committed to Fox Hill’s success both on a personal and professional level.

What is most special about Fox Hill is we are the first community in Colorado to offer a professionally managed farm for a farm-to-table lifestyle to our residents. Through an aquaponics system, hens, orchards, row gardens, berry patches, hops, vines, and much more, Fox Hill residents will have the opportunity to have weekly produce boxes delivered to their door year-round and have access to classes and events will be hosted at the original 1912 farmhouse- the same farmhouse my husband grew up in. It’s a one of a kind community and we are thrilled to tell it’s have a story and play a small part of its legacy!

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
Absolutely! There are so many opportunities for women. I personally believe women are starting to break glass ceilings and break those gender barriers in more ways than ever. Take my industry! I am a REALTOR in the custom home new construction industry. The construction world is primarily a male-dominated career, but what I am seeing is more female superintendents, construction managers, marketers, and salespeople! Women have the incredible ability to be relational, multitask, manage, communicate, be creative and so much more! I often wonder why are there not more women in the construction business? It’s a fabulous opportunity for women to show their true and authentic talents while providing a home to last a lifetime.
