Today we’d like to introduce you to Rickilee Pollock.
Rickilee, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a Colorado native who grew up in Golden. I moved back to Denver from Los Angeles about five years ago, when I was at a crossroads in my life. I have a bachelor’s degree in communications, but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to pursue. After a lot of contemplation, I took the real estate exam almost immediately after moving back, passed, and got licensed. It took a few months before I started working my first real estate deal, but clients have been consistent since then. I’m very fortunate to be surrounded by a supportive network.
My admiration for homes started as a young child, staring out my parents’ car window. I have a genuine appreciation for architecture, design, style, and the story of homes. Real estate is a great fit for my independent and entrepreneurial spirit. I’ve always enjoyed helping people and I absolutely love what I do. 100% customer satisfaction is my #1 goal. My clients are extremely important to me, and I take pride in negotiating all deals with their best interests in mind. I like to act as a consultant, rather than a salesperson.
I have a strong work ethic and I work almost exclusively by referral. I work all over the Denver Metro area because I get referred often. I appreciate working with clients who are respectful, loyal, and candid because these are attributes that I strongly value and practice.
When I’m not house hunting or getting a house ready for showings, I enjoy reading a good book, catching a movie or show, or walking my dog. I try to be outside as much as possible either hiking, camping, doing yoga, or on a lake somewhere. I enjoy trying new restaurants, volunteering, and being a community resource for my friends and family.
Has it been a smooth road?
You have to be brave to work 100% commission. Not knowing when the next paycheck is coming can be nerve-wracking. Budgeting and planning ahead are essential.
There is a lot of competition in the real estate industry. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t hurt every time a friend or family member (gasp) uses another real estate professional. I try my best not to take it personally and focus on what I can do in the future to sharpen my marketing skills or fine tune my listing presentation. Sometimes, it’s just not meant to be, and you just have to let it go.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with you as a Realtor. Please tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I think many people don’t realize that Realtors are different than real estate agents. Not every real estate professional is a Realtor. Realtors are active members of the National Association of Realtors (NAR) and must abide by a Code of Ethics.
While I work all over Denver Metro helping both buyers and sellers, I specialize in the areas west of I-25, including but not limited to Evergreen, Golden, Morrison, Arvada, Lakewood, Littleton, Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock, Wheat Ridge, Edgewater, and Denver. Along with being a Realtor, I have my RCS-D (Real Estate Collaboration Specialist-Divorce) designation. I work in collaboration with divorce attorneys to ensure that the transaction or process goes as smoothly as possible for all parties involved.
Also, I work with a lot of first-time homebuyers. I take pride in educating them on the home buying process every step of the way. I love helping clients achieve their dreams of homeownership.
Additionally, there is an immense opportunity to build wealth with confidence through investing in real estate, and not only with a primary residence. Purchasing an investment property or two, or ten, can equal college tuition for your children, dream vacations, and even retirement. I enjoy helping my clients develop strategies for their own investment property plan to achieve their goals of financial independence. I have been the project manager for several full home renovations, remodels, and income generating additions, including my own home.
Along with helping my clients, I am extremely grateful for the acknowledgement of my success by my peers in the real estate business. I have been awarded the DMAR (Denver Metro Association of Realtors) Rising Star Award, SMDRA (South Metro Denver Realtor Association) Diamond Circle Club Member Award, and multiple Power Professional Awards at my office. I look forward to many more future achievements.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I’ve always been a very independent and stubborn spirit, which I think definitely helps in the real estate business. I’ve consistently worked ever since I was 14 years old. I think every job and experience I’ve had has helped me get where I am today. From taking care of children as a nanny to learning how to deal with rejection as an actor to biking the Kokopelli Trail and completing a marathon-obstacles I’ve faced have helped me be the person I am today.
I was six years old when my family and I finally moved into a home of our own. I remember how important that was. My husband and I bought a home of our own almost two years ago and I remember how important that was too. I think about those experiences with every client I work with. I know that buying and/or selling a home is one of the biggest decisions you will make in your life, both financially and emotionally, and I’m empathetic to what people are going through.
