Life and Work with Samantha Inman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Inman.

Samantha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey began during my first Panic Attack when I was 19 years old. I was in Nebraska and woke up with the walls around me warping and this extreme feeling that if I didn’t move my right foot, something was going to kill me. I wrote a note to my mom, so if I was found dead, she would know what I went through. The extreme experience our minds can take us through is ungraspable and by getting to know myself through my shadows, I have been able to exceed more than more heart ever thought it could handle. I dreamed for years of traveling with my camera and was told by many doctors that my diagnosis (hyper-sensory disorder, PTSD, panic disorder) would never allow me to endure the culture shock and the long claustrophobic flights.

But with the help of my own personal rituals and self-development, I have worked as a content creator in India, Thailand, Bali, and the US. This, of course, doesn’t mean my mind hasn’t reacted, but it does go to show that anyone is able to do ANYTHING, no matter what others tell them.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s never a smooth journey, and if it was, there wouldn’t be a story to tell. There is no secret on how to get there and no right way to go about your passions. The only “secret” there is lies within your willingness to answer your inner calling and to CHOOSE what you are going to let get in the way. My first big international trip tested this boundary for me. I decided to quit my job and go to South East Asia with my best friend for three months, all while I was in a relationship and trying to build a career in content creation.

On my way to the airport, I couldn’t breathe and I could barely move my anxiety was so debilitating. My partner kept asking me if I needed to go to the hospital as I was hyperventilating so drastically. Once we arrived at the airport, I had to take my time through lines and sit down along the journey to our gate. However, having the awareness that this was my body misfiring and trying to protect me from illusionary “danger” I was able to move forward, even though I felt I was “going to die.” Once we got to the gate, I almost turned back, but a piece of me pushed through. I stood in line, I gave over my ticket, picked up my bags, and passed through the gate. Then BOOM.

Like a breath of fresh air, my anxiety subsided. It was if the finish line of the race was the gate to my plane. I proved to myself at that moment that I could do anything as long as I believed in myself. It is easy to compare ourselves to others. There were days when I would say, “well, so and so doesn’t have to crawl to the gate in order to travel…” “Life would be so much easier if I could just not feel this way” But the truth is, I have grown so much gratitude for the present moment and find blessings in some of the things that people overlook and it has fulfilled me to learn not only from the destination but from the journeys you take towards your end goal. Obstacles are gifts. It just depends on how you decide to look at them.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a digital content creator specializing in GIFS photography and short films. I have been on “Building Off The Grid” on DIY Network and HGTV with my partner Beau Dunavant IV filming our tiny home, have traveled the world with companies like Montaia to spread important messages of community, and helped amazing women artists/businesses capture their message through content and coaching sessions. I love what I do, and my sensitivity is a huge strength in my line of work as I am able to fully feel where a company or person is at and evolve their message into beautiful visual expressions.

Who have you been inspired by?
There is not enough room to share all the inspiring women in my life. I have been blessed with supportive friends, a mother that also struggled with Panic attacks and held my hand along my journey and amazing female artists that inspire me to keep creating bigger dreams.
