Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Marie Cook.
Sara Marie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got started right out of college. I thought I wanted to work in the creative department of an advertising agency, but I really just wanted to study all day long, and get paid. Low and behold, I landed in a Yoga Teacher Training and have studied bodies and movement just about everyday since. I have taught just about everything out there, from spin and HIIT to yoga, pilates, barre. I have trained with the upper echelon of fitness and movement gurus. Because of that, I have always tried to bring the highest caliber experience to my students- no matter what the modality. I am so inspired by what our bodies are capable of, and I am driven by the sheer forgetfulness we have of how amazing it is to move. I encourage people to move, in a myriad of ways, connect with their bodies, breathe. I think this is the portal to higher realms of self-awareness and living in authenticity.
Has it been a smooth road?
My obstacles have been mostly those of trying to live up to someone else’s idea for me or of me. This has been a long road toward knowing myself, trusting myself, and believing in what I have to offer 100%. To those who are starting out, I say give yourself the time you need to process. Listen to your gut. Surround yourself with people who believe in you, even on the days you don’t. Know your worth and stand up for your value.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Mind Body Battalion – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
The classes I offer are known to be physically challenging- in all the right ways. I like to make people think and to help them understand. Moving people outside their comfort zone and guiding them in ways that show them HOW to have the ah-ha’s- this is my inspiration. What seems out of reach is so much closer than we think. Most of my work is behind the scenes. I host an advanced yoga teacher training course, I write training manuals for studios, I mentor teachers to up level, I write programming for individuals.
My lifestyle brand Mind Body Battalion LLC has been growing slowly over the last ten years or so. We are sprouting legs and ready to take this to the next level. We are a community brand that shares inspiration, motivation, mindfulness and movement. We believe in the progressive nature of self-awareness and hope to make it more accessible to everyone.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I’m sure they did. I believe that the whole person is beautiful, so that would include past experience. I have always preferred to do things my way, once I accepted that about myself my I AM© method of teaching was born. I think what makes me feel successful is allowing myself to build my life on my terms. I wish the same for everyone.
