Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Fisher.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m honestly not sure how I ended up on this path, other than that “meant to be” feeling. I have a degree in Biology, which I was so incredibly passionate about, but truly believe somewhere down the road this path was what I was called to do. The more time I spend taking photos the more I find inspiration in honest and genuine human interaction. My photos are less posed and more real moments, which is always different. I think this is why my love for photography continues to grow. Capturing couples in their natural settings.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh goodness, no. I am completely self-taught which is a struggle in its own. I mainly shoot weddings, which is one of the biggest days of someone’s life. Talk about responsibility overload. I’ve had memory cards fail, my flash break mid reception, I got lost on the way to the wedding and was late, and the worst .. a couple not like their photos. I’ve honestly had it all happen, but you learn from it all. You learn to fix the problems and make it better. You get stronger from your mistakes. I think if I could give just one bit of advice it would be to always continue learning in every aspect to improve your business. Learn your equipment in and out, educate yourself on how to build a successful website with SEO tools, and challenge yourself creatively. Never get complacent.
Please tell us about From the Daisies.
I specialize in wedding and couple photography. I’ve been grateful enough to be published around the world and voted top wedding photographer in the West by Brides Magazine. I’ve shot weddings as versatile as being in front of waterfalls in Iceland, the jungles of Bali, an old historic castle in Wales, and even rode a camel while shooting a bride come down the aisle in Morocco. I’ve made my name as a traveling wedding photographer which is one of the things that makes me most proud about my brand, that I have built something so inspiring to my couples that they choose to take me with them all over the world for their special day. An honor I will never take for granted. But I think honestly my proudest moment during my entire career is that every single one of those weddings I mentioned were done while being a new mother. It’s so important to know that you can do it all and have it all in your business and still be a strong and present mother.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Hustle. This industry is competitive. You can make great money as a wedding photographer and being one can give you opportunities you didn’t even think were possible, but the only way to get there is to build a strong brand. Couples want to hire a photographer who is confident in themselves and their art. The only way to do that is to get out there, shoot like crazy and find out what you want to be and what you’re good at and let it show.
