Life and Work with Tina Parisi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Parisi.

Tina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved from Chicago six years ago and right into the cabin life. Living in a cabin in the mountains is an amazing experience and can also feel isolated at times.

My friend Julie invited me to attend a Yoga class at Studio B. I have been practicing yoga since I was a kid. After moving, I practiced mainly on my own. I attended a class and felt at home. I continued to become involved in the studio and eventually became the new owner. This was a path I didn’t necessarily see for myself but it continues to feel right every day. A tough path, but worth it. I feel blessed every day to say I do what I love.

I also have to mention my other work, Manager at Revival Brews. I found a home and friends at Revival Brews, a local brew pub. I was one of their first bartenders and worked to purchase my current business. I still work there a few nights and both places are part of my story. It’s a nice balance with the studio and keeps me social.

I became the owner of Studio B Yoga 3.5 years ago. The entrepreneurial life is not for everyone but I know it is for me. I have worked with many small businesses during and after college. Managing small businesses is work that I know and love. I have to say it was such an eye opening experience to step from Manager to Owner. To make decisions, to be responsible for staff and staying motivated were easy when I was a Manager. I was finding it more difficult to manage myself as an owner. These last few years have been full of growth opportunities and many successes. I am absolutely grateful for all of the yoga teachers at my Studio. I have such an amazing team and it has made this studio the success it is today. I really owe it all to them!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As I mentioned earlier, it was an eye opening experience to move from Manager to owner. I now had to juggle my time based on what I thought was important. Time management was something I found difficult. When I was a new owner I wanted to work on my business all the time. I am a recovering workaholic. I chose to bartend full time, become a business owner and yoga teacher training all at once. I was surprised at how much I could push myself. I quickly found that the universe will show you how strong you really are. While taking on all of what I mentioned earlier, a pipe froze and burst in my studio. I was devastated. I got over it, handled it and came out stronger and with better floors! This turned out to be a blessing. Although I still loose sleep wondering about the pipes on cold nights. You never stop thinking about your business. You can look at the bumps along the way as obstacles or you can grow. I also learned when to back off. I often would feel run down and kept pushing. I would “get things done” but at the cost of my own health. Thankfully through Yoga, I learned when to listen to my body over my mind or ego. So a struggle along the way was learning to balance working hard with proper self-care.

Some advice for women starting their journey is work hard, jump all in for that life you want! You are stronger than you think. The universe will show you. Look at obstacles as lessons to learn and opportunities to grow. Keep your health and sanity in check with copious amounts of self- care!! Get that pedicure, massage, lunch with friends, a good book, yoga class etc. Find whatever fills you up, because you will be giving a lot of yourself on your journey. Stay true to who you are and what you believe in.

Please tell us about Studio B Yoga.
I am the owner of Studio B Yoga. We are a cozy yoga studio in the heart of Evergreen, Colorado. I love being located near the main street in Evergreen and its old charm. We are also walking distance to Evergreen Lake. We are a very friendly and welcoming studio. Students have remained for years and we are a community of friends. We have Hatha yoga, Vinyasa, Heated Vinyasa, Yin, Restorative and Yoga for a Healthier Back. We have classes every day for every mood. Various workshops that allow our yogis to take their practice further.

Another experience that my Studio offers is outdoor Yoga. We have Hiking and Yoga, Yoga in the Grove and Snowshoe and Yoga. Yoga in the Grove is a local community event located at Hiwan Homestead Museum in their grove. It is a donation-based event and the whole family is welcome. Every other Sunday, from spring to Fall.

A few years ago, I decided to take on more. I remodeled another space in the building where my studio is located. I teamed up with Acupuncturist Marisa Rodero, Roots Medicine. We created a beautiful space where she offers Acupuncture and I have meditation, coaching, and more. Studio B offers a class called “Yoga off the Mat” in the upstairs space. This class has been life-changing for me and others in the group. It is led by Niki Sims, a beloved Yoga teacher. We discuss the other limbs of yoga, meditation, mantra, and a spiritual path and all of its struggles. I have found this group to be something I truly cherish in my life. It is open to everyone! Tuesday’s 6:30pm.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I love listening to yoga, nutrition and anything aryuvedic on podcasts. Nothing particular right now. Our Yoga off the Mat class goes through the Yoga Sutras and so I am currently diving into those.
