Today we’d like to introduce you to Ty Bjorklund.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ty. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Eight years ago, I got an urge to create a photo shoot to capture my daughter, who was a year old at the time. I did not want anything too extravagate just something simple to capture who she was at that moment. So, I dolled her up, with a bit of mascara, blush, and a sweet coral sundress I began to embody who she was frame by frame. Little did I know, that those photos would spark interest in me becoming a storyteller, that through my lens, I could freeze moments in time that would become memories for a lifetime. From then on, people were drawn to my style of photography; simplicity but portraying themselves for who they were at that moment. I grew my business from referrals and word of mouth. It has been such a privilege getting to capture the life of my clients through different seasons and life stages, this as truly made my business what it is today.
Has it been a smooth road?
One of my biggest obstacles has been wrestling with the question “Am I enough?” or “Am I doing enough?” The biggest place I am struggling with this is social media. I desire to share not only my portraiture but also who I am as an artist. But I am honestly fearful as to what is too much or too little to share. This consumes me so much that it paralyzes me to the point that I just become stagnate for fear of judgment of what I am doing or not doing. This leads to a spiral effect, where I begin to covet and live vicariously through other people I see through my screen instead of investing in the business I was built for. I even can catch myself imitating instead of creating and then questioning “Am I enough?”
We live in this digital age where everyone can hide behind a camera. They can create this facade of what real life looks like when really it’s a broken girl just trying to fake it till she makes it. But the truth is more people desire to see the undone then just the done up. So, I wish I could say that this is an obstacle I have overcome but it’s an ongoing battle. So, the biggest advice would be to be brave and walk in boldness. Don’t be fearful of who you are as an artist or an individual, just simply be you.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Tyler B Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Tyler B Photography is known for capturing your story one moment at a time. My style of photography is to capture all the candid moments, the in-between memories we never want to forget. I love for my clients to interact during our sessions, not just have structured poses. I love for kids to be kids, letting them be who they are and not just be required to stay still but to capture real life.
Who have you been inspired by?
There have been a few women who have truly influenced me to aspire to something greater. One is Julia Cameron and her book “The Artist Way.” She has really encouraged me to tap into my creativity and to work through the fluff to get to the root of what drives me. Second, would be Rachel Hollis, she has spoken to my soul, so much so you could even say she has been a driving force in me pressing into making my business and making it what it is today. Lastly, I would have to say Christy Nockels. Her podcasts “the Glorious in the Mundane” has spoken so much life to me and bring so many insights in finding peace when stuck in the midst of the mundane.
