Life & Work with Waladi Ali of Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Waladi Ali.

Waladi Ali

Hi Waladi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been a creative, with my lifetime medium being that of visual arts. I began my journey with drawing on any pieces of paper that I could get my hands on, with materials provided by my loving parents. I began drawing the media I enjoyed consuming, including but not limited to: Cartoon Network shows, Toonami anime, Nickelodeon and other various network shows. In my growth and development as an adolescent, I began creating comic books replicating said tropes from my favorite animes and shows. All the way until adulthood, I strived to create something fun and unique, now I combine that with powerful messaging and storytelling, that looks great and means well.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Every time I come across this question, I can attest that the road has never been smooth, rather, I was blessed with the strength and community to conquer more difficulties. Some intense struggles consisted of combining my hobby, passion and profession all into one, without losing the reason that I do it. The conclusion I’ve come to at this stage, is starting with creating from a pure place of self-expression. Then deciding what works can immediately resonate with others and that I’m comfortable to put a price on. Thereby, separating my love of the craft, and the craft of love for all parties to enjoy.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In essence, I take mundane moments and themes of life and elevate them to consciousness with an attractive arrangement of colors. This actually goes across the board from my personal work, comic book, and commission work that I do. I am a storyteller and enjoy elevating my voice and the voice of others through this medium. Currently, I specialize in digital art and graphic design. And with my graphic works, I am known for my intensely personal works of the human socialite. Covering a wide range of fun topics such as relationships, spirituality, and darker works that highlight abuse, sexual misconduct, and certain things considered taboo in our society to talk about. Overall, I’m truly proud to have grown into this form of an artist. I quite literally struggle drawing about nothing. Even sketching has become foreign to me, as every work I complete is me practicing and improving my work. Surely this is bound to change, but I’m enjoying the journey thus far. And finally, to speak from a third person perspective as to what sets my work apart from others, is simply that the work is unique to me. And ironically, with delving so deep into myself, my experience, and my perspective of other’s experiences, everyone is able to relate deeply to at least one of my works. Because deep down, we all have inherent similarities, and have something to say.

What’s next?
Our plans for the future include expanding our reach of artwork beyond the scope of Colorado and even this nation. To the point where other countries and continents are vying for our works, especially our current long running story titled “Justice Rain”. With volume 2 currently in production, we at WBA Art LLC are excited to shock and encourage the masses with our story of growth and facing the scary challenge of change with those that we love. If you have supported us before we’ve become an LLC, by the purchase of our prints or request of our commissions before the year 2022, know that we thank you and could not have gotten here without your trust and support.
