Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Diaz.
Aaron, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Got my first tattoo at age 18 by James foster. He was the first person in the industry to give me a shot and helped me out anyway he could (still friends with him to this day). I was really inspired by the tattoo industry and growing up always being hooked on anything that related to Hispanic culture especially art from lowriders to smile now cry later masks old English and lots more.
People like mister cartoon were my first big inspirations at a young age. I always wanted to be like him. Eight years later, I specialize in lettering tattoos and calligraphy inspired work. I jumped through lots of styles before finding my love in lettering. I’ve won awards for my work as well as done multiple Collaborations with world-known company sullen art collective. Two years ago, I self-published my first book, it was a lettering reference book for tattooers and up and coming artists and have sold copies all over the world including South America and the UK.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Had a rough start due to legal troubles for a few years but as a person who is a firm believer in everything happens for a reason, I found inspiration to take a different path and use my experiences to uplift my career. I am certain that if it weren’t for my experiences with the legal system, I wouldn’t be the man and artist I am today.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with DiazTattoos – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Tattoo artist and artist at old Larimer street tattoo. I specialize in custom lettering heavily inspired by calligraphy and other forms of hand lettering. Something that sets me apart from the rest is my work ethic and passion for my craft and niche trade. I take major passion in learning and expanding my knowledge whether it be reading calligraphy books or taking hand lettering classes. I go above and beyond to provide a one of a kind experience to get something that means so much to me and the client. Usually, a loved one’s name or memorial piece. I travel the country to gain experience and learn from new perspectives to always bring something new to the table.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Future plans are to continue building a brand of my tattooing where I can branch out to other forms of art such as solo art shows as well as I have a clothing line in the works thats calligraphy and lettering based to tell my story, values and beliefs in a new creative way that fuses my talent for art and passion for clothing design. After working with many clothing companies to collaborate on designs, it inspired me to start something of my own.
