Meet Shanah Schaffer of Absolutely Advanced Accounting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanah Schaffer. 

Shanah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I come from a very entrepreneurial family and have been part of small businesses my whole life. After selling our family-owned hotel in Pagosa Springs and moving back home to the city, I realized the immense need small business owners had for help, and how few accounting firms wanted to bother with what they figured were small fish.

So many people have such amazing talent and abilities, but very few were ever really taught how to be business owners. I wanted to help with that part, allowing owners to do what fires their souls. In addition, I love to empower them to understand more about this side of things and to be more engaged. I realized that if we approached what needs to be done a little differently, we can be a part of so many success stories.

Since then, we use communication, training, and a lot of humor to help fix messes that may have been created before us, streamline process, and help our owners through every stage of their growth, (and every bump along the way). We are stronger together, and this business has created a network of inspiring people. If one of my clients needs something or someone, I know another that can provide. My goal was to become a one-stop-shop for startups and small business owners, and we continue to grow and develop in that path every day!

Has it been a smooth road?
No business owner has a completely smooth road, and the more self-started you are, the more you tend to face along the way. It is truly difficult to know when the right time to bring in help, use professionals for tasks, and not have your finger in everything that is done. In this endeavor, I have been truly lucky to have connected with a truly stunning team of individuals that care just as much as I do about the success of our clients. Without them, we could not be anywhere close to where we are.

COVID has, as you can imagine, presented the biggest challenge of my career, as it has for so many. Trying to sift through the vast array of information and changes and keeping my clients updated has been such a task. For years to come, there will be implications in finance, accounting, and tax, and although it is a struggle for sure, we are up for the challenge!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I am a Colorado Native, and Denver is home. What else can I say – the Mile High Mentality is the best, and where else can we get such beauty and diversity all in one place?

I love that this Metro area is truly a melting pot of culture and humanity. I have been to other places where lots of cultures mix, and there seems to be much more divide and separation. I feel here in Colorado that we are of a different mindset, and I love the fact that I hear multiple languages all during a grocery trip. I also love our love of animals. In no other State do I see so many people with their animals, and nobody minds. Our pets are family, and I love that we all share that feeling here as a whole.

Honestly, I feel that the people in this city need to be a little more involved in the government process, and help more to shape the laws and desires of the people. We, (me included), are usually much too busy with work or being outdoors to want to be engaged in politics! We need to use all this positive energy to infect the rest of this Country!
