Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Asdel.
Adam, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Filmmaking has been a part of my life since grade school. I started out filming skateboard videos on an old VHS camera. However, after high school, I didn’t touch a camera for over five years. It wasn’t until a manager of mine at my previous job introduced me to his photography and the interest sparked up again. After purchasing a very basic DSLR and a kit lens, I became fully hooked on creating visual images. Within the following year, I was making enough money from my creations both photo and video and left my full-time job. Since then, I’ve landed gigs on national TV shows, Hollywood movies, and Commercials of all kinds. I still have a lot to learn and accomplish as I’m still early in my career but I’m looking forward to all that’s to come!
Has it been a smooth road?
Ask any filmmaker or photographer about their careers and I imagine most of them would say there has been more struggle than success. From dropping my only camera into a lake to the financial struggles of freelancing, I’ve found myself at times questioning the sanity of my decision to pursue this lifestyle. Being a small independent business owner comes with a lot of responsibility. I’ve had to learn how to wear many hats and it wasn’t long into the process that I realized taking photos and filming was only a small part of the process. I’ve spent countless hours building and rebuilding my website, marketing, doing taxes, making phone calls and sending emails, I traded a 40 hour work week for an 80-100 one. However, I wouldn’t trade it for any other job in the world. My career has allowed me to travel into the deepest canyons of Moab Utah to filming Tv shows on the Irish countryside. I’ve seen more sunrises and sunsets than I ever had before I picked up the camera. I’ve had to learn to accept failure more than ever but it’s taught me that it is just part of the process on the road to success.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
For the most part, I work as a freelance cinematographer and photographer, however, sometimes I will produce and direct bigger projects in which I have a team of talented individuals that help create high-end visual content. We focus on creating an outdoor lifestyle brand and action sport style videos/commercials. My team and I aim to make videos and films that have a high budget look with a smaller team, less budget and faster turn around times so businesses who hire us can start to see their ROI faster.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
Denver is amazing in so many ways but I love it for the fact that it’s surrounded by so much nature. I spend a lot of days up in Rocky Mountain National Park or in the mountains exploring the beautiful nature our state has to offer. I don’t think I could live in a busy city without being able to escape in a moments notice for some nature therapy.
