Meet Adam Thornton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Thornton.

Adam, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am extremely blessed to be where I am today as a business. I have had the most amazing clients and family support. My photography business continues to grow each year. During my first few years of being a photographer, I thought I needed to focus on all genres of portraits. I quickly found out though that I had a passion for senior portraits. Today my focus is as a company is on senior portrait photography. This focus has allowed me to offer a customized boutique experience to my clients. As a business, I am a nationally recognized and published senior portrait photographer.

Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing in life is a smooth road. There are always obstacles. How you approach these obstacles often differentiates how successful one will be in business and life. As I think back on my journey one of the first problems I faced was how do you start a business from scratch? Related but a little different is how do I differentiate myself as a photographer in a market that is oversaturated with photographers? Finding my niche really defining who and what I am as a business has a made huge difference in these areas. It is fun for me to continue to learn and grow as a business owner.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a photographer that specializes in high school senior portrait photography. In Colorado, students are able to submit a professional photo to the yearbook their senior year of high school. I specialize in offering senior portraits that are an experience. I want the senior portrait session for my clients to be an experience that they will never forget and leave them feeling amazing about themselves. My goal is to capture the senior’s true personality and beauty on the inside and outside. Each year I am honored to participate in Project Beauty with a group of local high school students. Project Beauty is a movement that different photographers participate in around the country designed to break down the pressures of social media and redefine the definition of beauty. Each girl that participates in the shoot comes with a simple hairstyle for the day and no make-up. They also post the images from the photo session on social media as a challenge to how society defines beauty.

The session experience and the personalized service are what sets me apart from others. When clients book with me they get a photographer that can relate to teenagers and one that knows the senior portrait industry. I am proud to say that my images have been published nationally in the senior portrait industry. I was also named one of the HOT 100 photographers of 2018 by Senior Style Magazine. But what I take the most pride in is when I capture that special image that mom, dad, and senior fall in love with.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Our city is a great place for starting a business like mine. There are a lot of photographers already in our city but that should not stop someone from starting their own photography business. There is always room for photographers that offer great service and a great product. If I had to give some advice it would be to find your niche and be ready to grind it out. Don’t be discouraged if it takes time to build your client base.
