Meet Aimee Palifroni of Prisma Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aimee Palifroni.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Aimee. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I get asked often why I chose event planning. It took me a little time and several different answers to really get to the real one – and then it seemed so obvious. My mother. My mother was, and still is, the impeccable hostess. As a military officer’s wife, as her mother before her, the art of the dinner party was an expected trait filled with beautiful displays of pomp and circumstance. I grew up watching my mother create beauty from nothing – food, cocktails, centerpieces, decor. Right down to the smells and music in the air, I envied her grace and imitated her style. As I grew older and eventually moved on to have my own home and friends, I loved to entertain. Birthdays, BBQs, summer soirees – I would make up reasons to have a celebration – just so I could have an excuse to buy fresh flowers to make an arrangement, try that new napkin fold I learned, and concoct the perfect drink for my guests. I started as a catering server in high school and got my first real taste of working in the industry. In my 20’s while perfecting the placement of my self-serve hamburger station for a poolside fete, a friend asked why I wasn’t an event planner. “WHAT? I could get paid for this?!” The thought had never crossed my mind! I had taken a break from earning my English degree at Colorado State University and decided to return to school at Metropolitan State University of Denver and pursue a degree in Business Management with a minor in Hospitality, Tourism, and Events. While in school, I started working as the wedding coordinator for a busy golf course venue and my passion for weddings was ignited. I’ve worked in an event capacity in some of the best hotels, restaurants, and venues in Colorado before creating my own journey. This story is still building with every year I own, grow, and cultivate Prisma Events and the culture we stand for. It’s always been about our couples and being a servant to good taste, beautiful events, and happy times. I love it and I never want to stop!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s taken some time to get to this point. But the journey was well worth it. I started Prisma Events (although it’s had several names over the years!) in 2009 while continuing to work full time in hotels, restaurants, and event venues. I began taking on a few weddings “on the side” – 2-3 a year at first, then 4-5 a year, all while working “that corporate gig.” My passion for those personal elements continued to grow and I wanted more and more to be in a position to give the level of hospitality I believed was the next level. We added children to the mix and that seemed to push that dream back farther and farther. I struggled to manage all the pieces – corporate demands of performance, marriage, raising small children, and wanting to move forward. Finally, at the end of 2016, by the very supportive husband was given a promotion and raise in salary that would be enough to let me walk away from just being a number in a corporate fishbowl and truly work towards my dream. I left my last hotel that fall and never looked back! Within months, I’d already booked ten weddings and counting. Now in my third year full time wedding planning, I have a staff of three and we are doing upwards of 30 weddings a year. I don’t regret that time working for someone else as it taught me patience with people, what good business practices should be, and of course, my knowledge and experience for event planning covers a wide range of facets that bring it all together.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Prisma Events – what should we know?
Styling and planning Colorado weddings and special events since 2009, we love to love, pretty things, and watching you ride off into the sunset at the end of an epic party. Your wedding should tell your love story and we are here to help write the forward. Our job as wedding planners is not to “take over your wedding” but to help facilitate exactly what you want. While we specialize in LGBTQ weddings, we welcome every couple (we’re even bilingual!), and we want you to feel like it’s all just for you. I believe what sets us apart from other planning companies is that we truly extend the highest level of hospitality that we can. We continuously go above and beyond for our clients to make sure that they are fully present in their day and their celebration – and that includes their friends and families as well. No one should have a “job” at their wedding except to get dressed up, drink mimosas, and let us take care of all the details so they can feel like a guest at their own party.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
As is often mentioned in our reviews, the characteristic that everyone on our team excels in is keeping the calm under pressure. Each of us has a quick-thinking ability, thinking two steps ahead, and able to remedy any issue you can throw at us in a calm and collected manner. I love when I hear from a couple, or even their parents, that they felt so at ease throughout their day because we spoke calmly to them and made sure everything was handled. We love to have fun and we want everyone involved in a wedding day to be their best selves and do their best work. We make sure all the vendors are taken care of, we check in on moms and dads, refill drinks for the bridal party, and make sure our couples get to enjoy the menu they chose. We pride ourselves in creating a fun, high energy environment where everything runs smoothly.
