Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa Taylor.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Alexa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always had a passion for visual storytelling. As a kid, I wanted to grow up to be a Disney animator and in high school, I began to develop my design skills as a staff member for the yearbook. This passion leads me to attend the University of North Carolina where I studied journalism and media with a focus on graphic design.
After college, I began working as a designer for several of the professional sports teams here in Denver. While I initially thought I had landed my “dream job”, it didn’t take long for me to get a little restless. Eventually, I started freelancing and that lead me to leaving my full-time job in 2015 and pursuing entrepreneurship.
For the past five years, I’ve worked to grow my business and have been honored to work with clients across the globe. It’s hard to imagine going back to a “normal” job — I love the challenges, connections and fulfillment entrepreneurship has brought me!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m not sure if there is such a thing as a “smooth road” when it comes to running your own business. Luckily, while I’ve faced my share of challenges, each of them has helped me to grow as a business owner and individually. I’ve had many late nights and yes, there have been a couple of times where I wasn’t sure if I would be able to pay the bills. But in the end, each of those challenges has helped me to move forward and ultimately improve my business.
I think one of the biggest challenges I faced when I first started my business was a lack of boundaries — and let me tell you, boundaries make all the difference when working with clients!
Please tell us about Foothold Creative.
My business is Foothold Creative, a branding and design studio helping entrepreneurs to connect, convert and get to the next level with strategic and intentional design. I offer branding, website design, launch direction, and on-going design assistance. Because of the way my services are structured, Foothold Creative is a true design partner that stays with you for the long haul as you grow and scale your business with confidence.
As a company, I’m so incredibly proud of the experience I provide my clients. As a brand designer and strategist, I have to truly listen to my clients, encourage them to dig deeper into their mission and develop a strong understanding of their business. Typically, this leads to a close relationship with them and I’m proud to deliver meaningful and purposeful designs that have the power to make a huge impact on their business.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Hands down, going to Disney World. Super cliche I know, but that was definitely my family’s “thing.” We typically would go every 3-4 years, so it was kind of our own little family tradition. We would even try to stay at the same hotels and eat at the same restaurants, only slightly changing our routine from trip to trip. My mom always made a big deal of planning our trips and I will always cherish the time I spent with my family there.
