Meet Alexandra Steinke of MileHighPooches

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Steinke.

Alexandra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2016 my boyfriend, now husband, and I adopted a dog. We had contemplated this idea for months but were continually held back by thinking raising and training a dog coincided with being a homebody – which neither of us are. When we found the one that drew us in, the goodest boy there ever was, we were determined to mesh being fur-parents with maintaining our social life. We immediately began researching businesses that allowed dogs in or on the premises, dog-friendly events, and outdoor rec areas that were especially favorable to our four-legged friends. We knew we needed to share this information with like-minded individuals, and Instagram served to be a platform to do just that sort of thing. Although the Instagram account has evolved into daily features of many of the Centennial State’s most adorable dogs, this was the intended purpose of Mile High Pooches.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As Instagram’s services are free to all users, we have had a zero-risk road: A.K.A – it’s been amazing! There have been times when I have questioned why we continue to run this account and could not see the value, only to be reminded by one of the incredible followers of what it means to them to see their dog featured or find about a new event that has connected them to a fellow doggo enthusiast in the Mile High land. These incredible individuals and pups make it worth every effort.

Please tell us about MileHighPooches.
We are an Instagram account featuring dogs of the Mile High City & Centennial State daily – as well as promoting dogs up for adoption, dog-friendly events, and dog-friendly businesses. As a company, we are proud to promote local-products, partner with local companies, and get the word out there about dogs in need of adoption.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Every single dog (or human) account that tags #milehighpooches or #mile_high_pooches has helped direct someone to our page. I want to especially thank MaxFund for partnering with us to feature dogs in need of adoption. Sidewalk Dog for a huge shoutout in their newsletter and opportunities to promote dog-friendly Colorado businesses with them. And lastly, ALL the dogs and all the people who just love dogs as much as we do!
