Meet Alicia Blach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Blach.

Thanks for sharing your story with us, Alicia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always had a love and curiosity for art. How is it created? Who created it? Why did they create it?

In the beginning, I wanted to share this love and curiosity through teaching. While attending Arizona State University, I explored different media, techniques and subject matter. I returned to Colorado and received my Art Education degree from the University of Northern Colorado with a minor in Art History. I started my journey in northeastern Colorado and began my teaching career at Liberty K-12 School in Joes, Colorado. Following Liberty, I began teaching art at the elementary school in Yuma, Colorado. While teaching in Yuma, I pursued a Masters Degree in Art and Design at the University of Northern Colorado. Introducing children to art, techniques and ideas became one of my passions.

I was able to instruct and learn at the same time. The love of studio work inspired me to introduce TAB (Teaching for Artistic Behavior) to my students. With this form of instruction, children are encouraged to become independent artists and not just reproduce art. The students self-assess their work and work as individuals or groups in a studio atmosphere, meeting state and national standards. Although I continued to love teaching, I wanted more time with my family, the farm and to pursue my own artistic itch. Since I began to dive into my own artistic pursuits, I have been able to travel throughout the world. This has allowed me to learn different techniques and create my own work. I am so fortunate to be able to share my love for color and texture through my multimedia work. My rural background, faith and family have become my inspiration as I continue to grow as an artist.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There are always obstacles and challenges in everyday life but finding time to create in my studio has been my greatest challenge.

We’d love to hear more about your art.
Alicia Blach Art was developed to show how art can create a feeling and energy, My art has been influenced by strong Faith, rural lifestyle and travel, particularly Italy, and Mexico. I primarily consider myself a mixed-media artist but I have worked in a variety of mediums. My art is always changing. I feel the act of creating the art is as important as the final result. Art can touch all the senses. Such as, the smell of a new crayon, the touch of yummy rich paint in a gallon tub, the sound of lines as they vibrate on the canvas, and bright colors that jump to life as you look at them. I love to try new ideas and create big happiness! Perhaps that is why I do it… HAPPINESS and JOY. HAPPINESS for my audience and JOY in creating.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My family and faith in God deserve credit for my successes.
