Meet Allison Rissel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Rissel.

Allison, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I first started teaching yoga in 2006 in college. After just a few classes, I knew that I had found something special. I’ve always been physically active, but yoga spoke to my heart in a new way.

I moved across the country to Williston, ND where I was one of only three teachers in town. I continued to teach yoga and created a community of healthy people who loved yoga. When I moved to Longmont in 2015 my students were devastated. So I agreed to start training teachers in small towns in ND. I’ve now trained over 100 teachers in areas that previously only had 3-5 teachers.

In 2017 I started the ND Yoga Conference to help unite like-minded people from around the state and gather together to create strong community bonds.

Now, living in CO, I’m inspiring yoga teachers and the mindful community by building yoga communities through teacher trainings, teacher gatherings and as the president of the non-profit Yoga Teachers of Colorado (YTOC). O yeah- and we’re going to have a yoga teacher conference in May 2021 – details coming soon. 😉

I believe one good yoga teacher can change a life and create a community.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One of my biggest struggles has been my own mindset. I’m often faced with imposter syndrome. Who am I to be doing this work? Through yoga and meditation, I’ve been able to recognize this imposter syndrome and work through it but it’s still always present.

Also, I think I’m now addicted to caffeine. LOL

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I believe one yoga teacher can change a life and create a community. I inspire yoga teachers to achieve their greatest potential and make an impact in their community through my consultations, trainings, workshops and events.

I don’t believe in competition. A lot of yoga teachers are competitive with each other and their students. This is a fear-based mindset. I believe that we each have a unique gift that we can share with our unique clients. Through my consultations and events, I help inspire teachers to find this unique gift so they can spend time creating an impact in their communities and not involved in petty competition.

If you’re willing to put in the hustle and adapt this non-competitive attitude, then there’s plenty of room in the yoga world. I welcome any and everyone into my trainings and I know that my students will always find me!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as passion. When I am passionate about something, I’m successful at it.

My thoughts, energy, and actions align when passion is present. When all of these align, I find it impossible to not be successful since I can throw my entire Self into that project.

Of course, I still have days where I’m not passionate about my business and I just want to sit on the beach and drink mojitos. So I give myself those days too.

And when I return from those breaks, my passion and success return.
