Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Constant.
Amber, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Long before I ever knew what a Style Coach or Wardrobe Stylist actually was, I was the kid who stayed up late picking out just the right outfit for the next day or taking scissors to items I found in a bag of hand me downs. In 2012, our family of five took off on what would become a four-year adventure traveling across the U.S. while my husband (an ER Nurse) took contracts as a travel nurse. We lived everywhere, from Florida to New Hampshire, Los Angeles, and Maui! When we started this, I was home with our three kids aged 1.5, 4 and 6 at the time. Partly inspired by the recent lifestyle change and by the coming out of the intense baby phase of raising kids, I realized I wanted to flex my creative muscle again while also helping women.
Being a mom myself, I was keenly aware of how easy it was to forget myself and forget that I had gifts and something to give. While we were in Florida, I had one amazing friend (Christy, I love you forever) who let me come over to do my first real closet edit and style session. We played for hours with her wardrobe, honing in on her personal style, talking about how to make the most of her unique figure, creating ready to wear outfits to help streamline her getting dressed and later I even got to do a personal shopping trip for her creating several outfits to fit with her current wardrobe. That was the start of working with women to help them believe the truth about themselves and overcome the obstacles both in their closets as well as their minds that keep them from showing up in their lives wholeheartedly.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It most definitely has been a long and winding road, full of bumps and twists! When I was first inspired to start in 2012, it came with the knowledge that we would soon move on to the next location just a month later. In four years’ time, we moved six times and in each place, I would basically start building my clientele from the ground up. What’s more, I had a college degree, but it was in French. I really had no prior business training, but I jumped in and started to figure things out as I went. Remember that I also remained a mom of three this entire time, and being that we were temporarily assigned to each location, we also chose to homeschool. To say life/work balance was tough is an understatement! Overall, I’m really very grateful for all the diverse locations and people I had the privilege to work with during this time!
Please tell us about The Closeteer Style Coaching.
So, I’m a Style Coach and my clientele consists mainly of women, although I have worked with and styled men as well. I struggled to find an accurate term to describe what I do because it’s more than just coming up with well-styled looks for my clients. I offer style sessions that include closet edits, wardrobe organization, capsule wardrobe building, body proportion basics, color consults, body image coaching, personal shopping and sustainable style shopping trips for small groups. I love combining my love of creating new looks with curated thrift and consignment shopping. Encouraging sustainable clothing options is important to me and shopping your own closet is one of the first services I offered. I am proud to offer my clients focused on one-on-one coaching, and really strive to create a one-of-a-kind experience that streamlines their lives and allows them to fully show up as their unique selves!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Well, obviously, everyone wants their business to be monetarily profitable for the time and energy put into it, but I think true success comes down to creating an impact for good. My goal with each client is to help them make even one step more towards being more comfortable in her own skin. I love how unique each woman is and how “looking good” looks different for each of us. But I have realized that when we look good, we feel good and when we feel good, we can change the world! So really, it’s not about the clothes, but how we show up in our own bodies and clothing has a direct relationship to how we show up to the rest of our lives. Clearing obstacles and helping women believe the truth about themselves is what I would define as success.
