Meet Amy Turner of Goldfish Swim School – Stapleton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Turner.

Amy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I (Amy) am a lifelong swimmer and my husband (Patrick) yearned to own his own business. We wanted to open a business that combined our passions. We live in Stapleton with young kids ourselves and felt there was a need for a swim school as there are few dedicated, stand-alone swim facilities in the city.

We opened the first Goldfish Swim School location in Colorado in August of 2017.

We offer year-round swim lessons for babies as young as four months up until 12 years old. We have a wide range of lessons and also offer a recreational swim team for kids who compete at the top level of lessons.

We also offer Jump Start Clinics in the summer that focuses on getting kids water-ready through four consecutive days of lessons.

We also host a weekly Family Swim on Friday nights which is a great way for families to help their children practice their swimming skills and have bonding time in the water.

Our facility is very brightly colored with a Caribbean feel. Families and kids change in tiki huts, we have a popular blow-dry bar for hair drying and swimsuit dryers. Parents sit in a viewing area with a glass wall separating them from the pool. The pool deck is 90 degrees and the water temperature is 92 degrees so its great for kids.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We bought the land and built the building from the ground up and we learned A LOT along the way. Since Denver is so popular the permitting and building process took a lot longer than anticipated and it was quite a bit more expensive.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Goldfish Swim School – Stapleton story. Tell us more about it.
The school uses The Science of SwimPlay® curriculum, which is based on the philosophy that kids learn best through play-based activities while reinforcing water safety in every lesson. Parents receive weekly feedback on their child and progress reports once a quarter.

Each lesson also focuses on water safety so if an accident were to happen, we help train kids know what to do.

In 2019, Goldfish partnered with the USA Swimming Foundation Make A Splash initiative which helps give swim lessons to children in underprivileged areas who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford them.
