Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Maria Botero.
Ana Maria, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Bogota, Colombia. In 1990 I received a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, where I worked for several years for a family construction company named Construcciones Botero Montaño Ltda.
In 2001 my family and I moved to Florida, I worked there for Vigneault and Hoos. Architecture Inc. until 2005, when we moved again to the state of Colorado due to my husband’s work. Is at this moment when I decided to devote myself to art. I decided if I want to become and Artists, I will do it seriously, Painting five days a week, at first in my dining room, then I took over a shed in my backyard, open up some windows and installing a glass door. For several years my worked was centered on painting, but about five years ago, I felt I was missing something, the 3rd dimension, the space in between, so I started exploring sculpture. Colorado aerial views have been the starting point for my latest work, the relationship of planes, the geometry of the landscape and the magic of the empty space that transcends the shape and creates structure and equilibrium.
I love experimenting with different materials and techniques, today my studio is in Artworks Loveland and I have access to the Loveland creator space, a place with lasers, 3D printers, woodshop, CNC routers, Electronic Station and many other tools. Using Auto Cad and fusion 360 to create my designs combined with these tools sparks the creativity and opens up endless possibilities.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
During all the process, I have learn to adapt and reinvent myself. Moving from another country, different cities, different jobs, I can see how all the experiences I had and the skills I learned and keep learning start waiving together to shape who I am, to make me different and unique.
We’d love to hear more about your art.
I’m an Artist, Painting, sculpture.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, success is follow my heart, enjoy what I do and keep pushing myself to be better everyday.
