Today we’d like to introduce you to Anduriel Widmark.
Anduriel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up, art was just another form of play, a kind of play I just never stopped doing. As I got older and continued making art, it evolved into a way that I could navigate the world. Many of the sculptures I’m making now are the result of exploring spatial & geometrical patterns. Investigating this kind of geometry provides me with a number of funs, technical, and intellectual challenges. I’ve been really lucky to have opportunities to connect with and show these creations with others in both local & international art shows and mathematical conferences.
Has it been a smooth road?
Every road has some bumps, but 2020 has brought some very unique challenges. I’m trying to remember challenges often come with an opportunity for growth. My practices in patience and non-judgment have really been getting a workout these last few months. You can never have enough creative thinking and compassion.
Anduriel Studios – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Right now, my paintings and sculptures are entirely focused on pattern formations. These artworks strive to promote the beauty of mathematics. Geometry and crystallography have the most developed language for understanding the symmetry in space, so that’s usually what I find myself playing with. Recently, I’ve been writing about and presenting my work on homogenous cylinder packing arrays.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I expect to see some old institutions and power structures be replaced with more inclusive relevant ones. Creativity will become even more integrated into common daily lives. Interactive and relational aesthetics will continue to flourish. AI and AR are starting to do some really cool things and we are just beginning to see what is possible. There are so many exciting things happening all over the place it’s an exceptional time to be alive.
