Meet Andy Mullins of Bierdrop Trailers in Golden

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andy Mullins.

Andy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
If you traced it all of the way back, Bierdrop Trailers started in 2013 in an alley near City Park, just east of downtown Denver. I had moved into a small carriage house with my wife, where we met our (then) new neighbor, Julian Twin. Julian was building teardrop campers in his garage under the name “Twin Spruce Campers,” and I quickly took interest in his work, and the lifestyle it enabled. Three years later, I built my own teardrop camper with Julian as my mentor. After six months of late evenings and weekends in the garage, I finished my camper in Oct. 2016 and have had unlimited adventures since.

Fast forward to 2019, Julian and I had both moved out of that neighborhood, yet remained close friends. We decided to build another camper just for fun. This was as much (or more) an excuse to drink beer together as it was to build something… We finished the shell of the camper and decided that it held the potential to be more. Pausing briefly to brainstorm ideas, we had a really great conversation with our friends at FlyteCo Brewing (4499 W. 38th St., Denver) who gave us the idea to make it into a mobile beer bar, and Bierdrop Trailers was born. Over the months that have followed, we’ve created a fully independent, refrigerated camper with eight taps. Ideal for weddings, festivals, parties, and corporate events, Bierdrop Trailers represents (to us) the idea that “if you dream it, you can achieve it.”

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There’s no blueprint for what we built so challenges were plenty. I think the most difficult part was building the hatch for the camper. It took several iterations to get it right, and we didn’t even complete the final frame that’s on the trailer today without it snapping and needing repair (note: Andy knocked it over while jumping on the fenders during a weight test….) Even answering little questions like “how many taps should we install?” proved difficult as there’s nothing comparable in the marketplace. While the production wasn’t without frustration, it’s beyond fulfilling to see the whole thing complete and functional.

Bierdrop Trailers – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Bierdrop Trailers offers a fully independent (read; self-powered), eight-tap mobile beer bar that’s built to look like a teardrop camper. Our rental unit serves kegged beverages for any crowd up to 2,000 individuals. We like to think of our unit as ideal for weddings, festivals, parties, and corporate events, but the reality is that it works for just about anything you can dream up. There’s nothing quite like it anywhere in Denver; it’s a truly unique product that brings the party to you!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, success is defined by setting goals and pursuing them. You might not always achieve the goals you set, or you might reach them in a different way. What’s important is that you see them through. During my tenure with a subsidiary of DaVita, I went through a professional growth exercise to define my “One Thing” which was meant to be the one goal I would always reflect on to stay focused. My One Thing was to “always pursue my ambitions,” and that to me is what has made me successful, be it on my own terms or otherwise.
