Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Hartman.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Angie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I didn’t actually know at the time that I wanted to get into the health and wellness space. It seemed very ethereal to me at the time as this was never a space that I even considered because it was a bit before wellness became a buzzword.
I started down this journey with my own health issues. I had been admitted to the hospital on a number of occasions for extreme stomach pain. This was completely out of the blue. Overall, I was a healthy person. I was very active, I had a corporate Marketing job that I loved but I always had eaten healthy (or what I deemed as healthy) and considered myself a healthy person. Well, it turns out, me thinking I was doing all the right things really had nothing to do with it. It was body that was responding to certain foods, certain stressors and certain circumstances that really came to a head when in one year had three trips to the ER.
It was determined that the culprit was Pancreantitis (inflammation of the pancreas). So I was put on a clear liquid diet, given meds like percaset and told to go home until the symptoms cleared up. I also developed skin rashes like dermatitis during the entire process which let me to also attempt to clear my skin – not thinking at the time they were interrelated.
Following that, I would have more mild outbreaks that left me wondering what was really going on. I went to numerous specialists and gastroenterologists and my condition was then slated as IBS. So I was given over the counter meds to circumvent the symptoms like the bloating, stomach pains, etc. However, I still felt that something was missing. Why was I taking medication for something that I just didn’t’ feel I had a complete grasp on what was actually causing the symptoms? I decided to dig deeper.
I drastically changed my diet by cutting out gluten, sugar (before these were even known ailments) and started juicing and really being conscious of my alcohol intake and started removing toxic people and circumstances from my life. Within months my symptoms started to clear up. I stopped taking the medication for my skin, I stopped taking the meds for my IBS because the bloating and stomach pains had finally gone away.
After going through this for what took months, I started doing my research on Nutrition schools and at the time there weren’t that many. So I set my sights on the Integrative Institute of Nutrition. However, I was working a very full-time job and didn’t really see when I would be able to start that so I set it aside for a bit to start my journey into teaching yoga. I got my 200-hour training and started teaching side jobs while I was working my full-time corporate job. I found that I had a huge passion for helping others. Through yoga, I was actually helping people find themselves and tune into their bodies so it was a step in the right direction.
After about a year of teaching, I started to get my other fitness certification including my CPT from ACE and Group Fitness from AFAA. I started teaching more classes and really enjoyed this aspect of health and wellness because I myself had always been into fitness, creating programs, workouts and helping others become their best self, I just didn’t have my certifications, so now was the time!
After a couple of years of living a double life, and now having my first child, my husband and I decided to move from NYC to Denver. That seemed like the right time to focus on my health, being a mom, and doing what I loved which included teaching yoga and other fitness classes and it was time for me to get my Nutrition Certification.
An Integrative Health Coach is the title of program though IIN led me to and after a year of courses, I finally graduated and became a Health Coach in addition to continuing to teach and be a mom.
Soon after graduation, I started partnering with a Wellness company contracted with a couple Denver hospitals and began working as a health coach in their facility in local Denver hospitals. It was there I expanded my learning, coaching many nurses, physicians and other hospital staff through the process and really had a passion for adding the health coaching piece to my clients.
While working there I met so many like-minded coaches and saw there was a HUGE need for this and there was a gap in the system; not only with healthcare staff but with the general public. In general, people are stressed out, diseases are on the rise and these people needed a place to go to find the answers they so desperately sought.
People were seeking these answers and weren’t receiving solutions to the root cause of their problems they had only received temporary solutions for their symptoms and I wanted to see more and wanted to expand outside of the hospital.
I partnered with one of my board-certified health coaching friends and we created a comprehensive online wellness company for women.
Has it been a smooth road?
With anything, starting a business is not smooth. There are highs and lows. There’s a huge upfront investment in time, resources and money with little to no return. We’ve reached out to some incredible resources that have really helped us along the way and we are constantly asking for help because there is always someone else that may know or lead you to the answers.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with YOU Thriving – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others

The sense of community that is here in Denver. We feel very supported and feel very welcomed to bring this type of service to Denver and elsewhere. We are also very impressed with the food scene and the assortment of events that are always happening! I always love the constant sunshine! So different from the Midwest and East coast!
Coming from New York City, I don’t view this as a big city, but I do enjoy it for what it is:)
