Meet Antony Soehner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Antony Soehner.

Antony, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Way back in the spring of 2017 (I know a very long time ago!), I was sort of attending the University of Northern Colorado. I was sitting in the back of my English class staring at the ceiling wishing to play Dungeons and Dragons. Eventually, I tuned out and began handwriting the intro to a story that I have since lost. After heading home for spring break, I began creating this world for fun. Towns, cities, whole empires with people who had jobs and names and that’s when it registered to me that instead of building this world nobody will ever get to know, why not write it into a book?

Fast forward a couple of weeks and I’ve got the first bit of my first book done. My mom and I were off to Florida for Star Wars Celebration. While we were sitting in the airport in Orlando, headed home, I asked her if I could send her my book for her to just read over, maybe edit a little for me. (She herself has nearly forty titles under her name and owns her own publishing company.) After about twenty minutes of her reading what I had, she told me it was good and blew away her expectations. That’s where I began my journey into becoming an author.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For me personally, storytelling comes easy. But there have been hiccups along the way. Last year, we lost my grandpa very quickly to cancer and it put all my family’s lives on hold for nearly a year. During that time, while he was sick up until the beginning of this year, I got very little writing done. My fourth book took me about six months to finish during all this, which was the same amount of time it took to write my first three.

Since January, I have learned to be consistent with my writing. Making it my goal to write 1,000 words every day. Right now, I sit at 170,000 words and counting. By the end of 2019, I plan to have thirteen books written with six of them published.

What else should we know?
Since 2017, I have been published through 5 Prince Publishing. However, being the crazy entrepreneur like my mother, I’m beginning to branch out to become a self-published author with my own publishing house, Roll15. My goal is to spread the fun, growing, and accepting community that is Dungeons and Dragons through my writing.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I think the proudest moment of my career came about a week ago. I was scrolling through twitter when my notification bell went off. Someone tweeted me to tell me how much they liked my first book. They met me at Denver Pop Culture Con this year and after just two weeks had blown through my first book and couldn’t wait to get the next two. It made me proud because as an author unless you’re a big name or following, you don’t hear from all the people who enjoyed your book. Reviews are few and far between if you’re lucky to get them, and it made me very proud that someone took the time to not only read my book but to reach out and let me know that they enjoyed it.
