Meet Austin Howell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Howell.

Austin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story is a roller coaster. I started making music when I first heard Eminem back on 2002. I would take his songs to diss my teacher. 2005 is when music really took hold because my stepmom had passed away in a car accident and I used music as my escape from. the emotions. By time highschool hit I was fully immersed and knew that rap music is what I wanted to do.

When I was 19 I opened up for Lil Wyte at The Roxy Theater and my CD didn’t work so I had to acapella my whole set. No music no nothing, just me and a mic. In five years I’ve been all over the US performing, released and recorded over 70 songs which can be found all over the internet and currently I have over 50k streams on Spotify. My journey is far from over.

Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all to be honest. It is a fight every single day to make a name for yourself especially in the world of HipHop and In the underground scene. People will drag your name through the mud but also there are people who are really supportive. I’ve been working very hard and I stick to my own lane. I stopped worrying what other people and artists are doing and thinking. I find what works for me and do it.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Well, of course, I am a rap artist plain and simple. I set myself apart from others because I know my worth. I know where I’m at and what I’m doing is where I want to be. I research and research everything from Spotify promos, Facebook ads, sc promo, etc. I’ve had guys twice my age asking me for help and I gladly help.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Oh yeah. HipHop is always changing and always adapting. Where rap music was ten years ago is nowhere near where it is today. I can’t wait to see what happens and I will gladly be right there the whole time. HipHop/rap is still one of the newest forms of music and it will be cool to see how it keeps evolving.
