Meet Avery Jacob of Avery J & The BA and Stonewall BLVD in Aurora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Avery Jacob.

Avery, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well, my name’s Avery Jacob, I’m from Aurora, CO. I’m the Emcee, bassist and bandleader of Avery J & The BA and also Stonewall BLVD respectively. I started as a rapper when I was a teenager but eventually expanded into the realm of production by picking up the Bass and some percussion. I started writing with my partner Dom Gordon in 2012 but took a hiatus to serve in the military. Once I got out, Dom and I continued our work started Stonewall BLVD which is a Hip Hop and Rock fusion band with Zilla Hawkins, Alex Wheeler and Shawn Lewis and we released an EP called Welcome to The Block. Eventually, I wanted to get back to my influential roots which are in Delta Blues and Old World Gospel, so I started Avery J & The BA as a production project that mixed those elements with hip hop. I started producing the upcoming album See U at the Crossroads and eventually ran into drummer Lucas Milowski and well known and respected guitarist Justen Howard to round out the sound.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a smooth road when you’re building from the ground up! But we never complain about the difficulties we just keep it movin’. The year is one when I look at my progress because I released a hip hop mixtape last year called CLFX AVE, a rock EP this year with Stonewall BLVD, and now an upcoming LP with The BA and none of it has been easy because it’s a lot to manage. I embrace the challenges and look forward to releasing all that has been created because there is a lot in store.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m a member of the Avant-Garde Society. I play in four projects for the society. Avery J & The BA, Stonewall BLVD, The League and illosophy respectively. As a part of society, I work in the music department as a producer and just push creativity and ensure that we’re developing a community of artists with something special and unique to give to the world.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Looking back on year one there have been SO many moments to be proud of! From Stonewall BLVD opening up for the legendary KRS-One, to producing an album entirely from scratch with The BA, to forming the League with my brothers Twone Saxx and Scoob and traveling to create what was the most fun album I’ve ever been a part of, to continue to write and perform in all of these projects with my partner Dom Gordon. I’m entirely proud of my team and all that we’ve accomplished and even more what’s next to come.
