Today we’d like to introduce you to Bailey Smith.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Bailey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
A little over a year ago, I started The Freckle Spot blog and never looked back! I grew up moving all over the country, getting to live in small towns and big cities. All that moving helped me form my personal fashion style and motivational voice.
I’ve always been fascinated by fitness and a healthy lifestyle and this has been the main cord in my life tying me to my other career as a yoga teacher.
I wake up feeling so lucky that I get to share all the things I love (fashion, beauty, and fitness) with so many people and encourage others to live their best life!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being a content creator definitely has it’s up’s and down’s much like any other career. The constant comparison game and having to feel like you are validated only by numbers can be a tough road. While it’s easy to get caught up in that, you have to remind yourself of your “why.” Why are you doing this? Do you love what you are creating? Do you love to share your passion and inspire others?
This past week, I had to remind myself that this is my job and I am so proud of my work when an upsetting situation came up. I was shooting pictures with my husband for a collaboration I had with H&M – one of my biggest projects ever! In the middle of taking pictures, I heard a woman sitting in her car making fun of me. She was yelling insults at my poses and how ridiculous I looked standing outside, smiling at the camera. I was stunned. Stunned that someone would be so cruel. After they drove off, I was about to get upset when I realized, I was shooting a campaign that I was SO proud of! I was getting to do something I loved and no one would be taking away that joy from me.
When in doubt, come back to your joy.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Freckle Spot started off as an escape for me to rediscover my passions for fashion, beauty, and fitness. Over the year and a half since starting it, it has evolved into a place where others can rediscover THEIR passions.
I have always loved sharing my findings and inspirations with others and I’m loving that I can meet other people who are just as excited about those topics as well.
I am a full-time yoga teacher here in Denver who loves makeup just as much as meditation. I love shopping for the latest trends in fashion while thinking about my next workout. This balance of fashion, beauty, and fitness is such a constant in my life and what makes me different from the other content creators out there.
What was you like growing up?
Oh gosh, haha, a shorter and quieter version of myself now!
Growing up, I was really short because of a growth plate problem (this is basically what makes your bones grow to your full adult height). And on top of being a foot shorter than my whole class I had a really bad stuttering problem, which was upsetting because I always had a lot, I wanted to say but was too scared to speak in case I stuttered.
God bless my mother who taught me how to express myself in other ways – fashion.
She bought me these wooden platforms Steve Madden clogs, colored hair clip ins and glitter roll-on makeup and my confidence grew – and eventually so did I. But not before I kicked some bullies in the shin with my rock hard shoes when they made fun of my height or stutter. Haha!
My parents were always active and this also flooded into my life. My brother and I played every single sport and after school activity possible. I would get up an hour early for school and paint my nails, read fashion magazines and put on every single shade of eyeshadow I had, then after school, I would wipe it all off for soccer or cheerleading practice. That balance of glam and sweat made me who I am today, who my brand is today.
