Meet Harmony Bowman of Blue Willow in Aspen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Harmony Bowman.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Harmony. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up the flower child daughter of an herbalist mother and cannabis advocate father in Portland, Oregon. After an illness in 2017 left me bedridden and in pain, I began exploring the healing power of plants and ultimately launched Blue Willow to share the products I now love and swear by. After trying almost every product on the market, I took a page from my mother and began making balms, oils and bath soaks, with the aim of creating a brand that is as effective as it is beautiful and luxurious. These are the products that saved me when I was at my worst and now keep me at my best.

I previously worked at L’Oréal and more recently in brand management for Constellation Brands. I loved my job there, but Wine & Spirits was never my lifelong calling and I often yearned to combine my skillset with something I truly believed in. I developed a lot of tools necessary to start my own business, and I left in 2018 to focus full time on getting Blue Willow off the ground, which I did in spring 2019.

While I have big visions for the brand, I’m currently a one-woman operation – not only taking care of marketing and daily operation of the company, but also making and shipping every single product by hand. It’s been challenging but rewarding beyond description!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any new or small business there have definitely been challenges along the way. Navigating cannabis industry hurdles like merchant processing and banking were big learning experiences for me.

Please tell us about your business.
Blue Willow is a natural luxury skincare brand offering product formulated with CO2 extracted, full-spectrum CBD oil. Blue Willow products are also infused with carefully selected botanicals and essential oils. The brand was born from my desire to create high-quality, effective and clean CBD-infused topicals.

The feedback I get most frequently from customers is that the scent is amazing. I worked with the talented Anne McClain behind MCMC Fragrances to develop a luxurious signature scent for the products. I wanted something different from the citrus, lavender or hippie scents so often connected with cannabis, but that was still totally clean and natural. We landed on a woodsy floral, with cedarwood and sandalwood balancing Indian jasmine for a unique and beautiful fragrance that I couldn’t love more. I also often receive very positive feedback on the packaging and design, which I put a lot of time and effort into creating. My opinion, though clearly biased, is that the packaging and fragrance combination make Blue Willow standout among the competition.

While each of our products is special, our balm is particularly unique. It’s oil-based, but never greasy, and made without water or waxes. The result is a one-of-a-kind texture that is both rich and decadent and incredibly light. It’s a cross between a body butter and a balm and I have yet to find anything else like it.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I feel lucky to have had a childhood I look back on very fondly. My family has always been close, I spent most of my time outdoors and got to travel a lot at a young age. I’d like to say my favorite memory is unique or exotic, but many of my best childhood memories involve summers spent with friends camping or running or playing in the mountains. I’m still a summer-in-the-mountains girl, so those look a lot like my favorite memories I’m making today.
