Meet Caleb Parker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb Parker.

Caleb, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up very focused on racing motocross my whole life. All of my role models were professional racers and that is the scene I grew up in and that is all I ever wanted to do with my life was race motocross professionally. Things were going well but when I was 16, I had a pretty big accident that I came out very injured and after that everything changed. My head was shaken up pretty bad from that accident and the wild things that would happen to me from it caused me to decide to quit riding and racing overall. This was a tough decision because I had always wanted to pursue that goal, and so now everything had to change. I was always a big art student growing up, I love art, I love expressing passion, belief, and character through art. Although at this point I had probably never even held a camera, I always had an eye for art.

I had a good friend that was really into photography and so that sparked my interest a lot, and I also met a local photographer who I thought his work was stunning. Between the two of them, a fire for my love for photography had started and I was able to save up and buy a camera of my own. I started going into the mountains almost every day after school to shoot, to grow, to find new angles, to find new techniques, to learn, and my passion and love for art had now transferred over to the art of photography. I began taking photos I was more proud of and I started to think they were getting pretty good. I was inspired by guys like Sam Kolder, Peter McKinnon, Justin Scudney, Ryan Resatka, etc. From there I knew that photography/videography was going to be a huge part of my life somehow. I eventually graduated high school and went to college in Denver, CO on a bible degree.

I went to school for a year and throughout that year, my talents, my recognition, and my passion had grown exponentially. I decided after that year to drop out of college so I can focus strictly on my career as a photographer/videographer. This was a risky decision and a decision that many would not recommend but I would not say it was a hard decision. I knew what my passion what and I knew what my career was so I wanted to chase that. I am now 19 years old, I live in Denver by myself, and I am a photographer/videographer. I shoot weddings, engagement photos, senior photos, product photography, I shoot on traveling groups. I aspire to capture images that show true happiness and images of places that most people will never be able to see for themselves.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Everything about this career I’ve been pursuing has been rocky. I doubt myself constantly, I doubt if my work is good if I can make it if I can get clients if I am going to be financially stable if this is what my career is going to be… I’ve been very blessed in so many ways that I have made this a smoother road than I deserve. My parents especially have always supported me in everything I decide to go after. I’ve been extremely blessed by God with the talent I have and the eye for art He has given me. I’m blessed with the friends I have who have supported me and inspired me in so many ways to keep going. I’m blessed with the clients and the people I’ve worked with to trust me and hire me. It can be really hard to hire a 17, 18, 19-year-old kid to capture images that are only going to happen once in your lifetime. This road has been very rocky but I’ve been blessed with people to push me through and especially my passion and my goals to push me through no matter how hard it is.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a photographer and videographer. As mentioned earlier, I shoot weddings, engagement photos, couples photos, senior photos, family photos, product photos, etc… In the trade I am in, it is near impossible to be “unique” and everyone wants to be unique and set apart from the rest. In all honesty, there are many amazing individuals out there that are genuine and love what they do, so truthfully I can’t say I can be different than everyone else, I can’t say that I am set apart from everyone else. What I can say though is I value and I strive for a genuine character in myself. I try to always be open, and I try to be a real person to the people I am working with, I want to be a part of my client’s lives after I am finished working with them. I love mankind and I love people and I enjoy knowing as many people as I can and genuinely caring about people. I will always give out my best work in my photos and videos but more importantly, I will always give my best effort to be a genuine, real, and loving person no matter what.

What was you like growing up?
My parents had all four of us kids in five years and they started when they were 21. We grew up very influenced by athletics and sports and physical health. My parents were young so my dad would always do everything with me growing up. We grew up very competitive as a family, everything was a competition and I will not be the first to tell you that I hated losing. Although competitive and aggressive when it comes to athletics, I have always been pretty shy and quiet. I am more introverted person and although I love people and I love being around people, I also love time by myself.
