Today we’d like to introduce you to Camile Deherrera.
Camile, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Over the past few years, I’ve been reinforcing mindful thinking and living; Reading and listening to motivational speakers, self help books, podcasts, yoga, meditation, affirmations, broadening my perspective, and redirecting the negative thoughts and habits I had formed over years of repetition. I began implementing and embodying these teachings and new routines into my life. Amongst this period of growth, these resources and intentional actions have allowed me to align with people that share similar mindsets. With those that are goal oriented, positive, and have solution mindsets. During a conversation about the correlation of power and knowledge I had with one of these people I was so fortunate to meet, I used the quote “knowledge is power,’ in which they refined with “The application of knowledge is power.” This phrase awoke a sort of “Aha” moment for me.
At one point in time, I couldn’t see the light. Anxiety ached through me, depression kept me under the covers. The darkness and demons that lived in my head had grown strong and learning their names and confronting these demons was something I never thought (at the time) that I could ever have the strength to do. Through persistency, mindfulness, faith, being knocked down countless times and therapy, I had proved myself even more capable and strong than I could have ever imagined. I chose to create a new reality. Like a knife before use, I was being sharpened. The negativity surrounding me taught me my strength, and through that darkness, I have created a path of light.
The application of knowledge is power. Life experience gives us knowledge, and my knowledge of darkness partnered with an innate gift to help others is something I realized I wished to apply. To influence new perspectives and to influence people that they too are light. That they too are strong. That they too are capable. To influence them to realize their true worth, and how extraordinary and divine they are.
With a strong foundation created, a grand idea, an abundance of knowledge, some motivation, and a whole lot of self love, the project in which I have titled “AlEYEnment” (alignment) was born. (a collaboration project with Amani Batura- photographer)
The project showcases moving through, strengthening, and aligning the seven chakras. Chakras being energy forces throughout the body that play a part in our physical, emotional, and spiritual well being. I partnered with my best friend to embody the essence of each chakra, through a series of colorful, symbolic, photos and concepts.
Through this series, it has challenged me to delve deeper into myself, my purpose, and has challenged me in amazing ways. I’ve aligned with my soul purpose and have found my voice. My goal is to speak for those that have not developed their voice yet, for those that also experience darkness from time to time. Also, to share the light with all, to motivate people to go out and get their dreams, and to bring more positive mindsets into existence.
Has it been a smooth road?
In my experience, being uncomfortable goes right alongside growth. They work as a duality. It is inevitable to struggle and have challenges when you’re pioneering towards a better future, its part of paving our path – there will be rocks and other obstacles. My biggest obstacles have been internal, as internally you’ll find the root of how every external or physical problem is reflected. States such as Fear, doubt, managing when and where I direct my energy, are obstacles I have faced. Speaking my truth and using my voice, in everyday life and in the videos I make, has required a lot of vulnerability. Thoughts questioning my capability often challenge me. Fear of being seen and heard have also challenged me.
A pivotal piece of speaking of obstacles is not the obstacle itself, but the ability to recognize it, face it and take the lesson from it. I remind myself that through these growing pains, which are a physical testimony to the uncomfortableness of growth, it is important to trust that I and we are strong for even putting ourselves out there. That I and we are doing our best, and that is enough. That all things worthwhile, require us to be put in uncomfortable situations to learn and to gain knowledge to later apply, and that we will always move forward.
We’d love to hear more about your work.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I love about our city is that Denver is a free space in which artists have the room to ~experiment~ in an art form. Ranging from the dynamic regional theater scene associated with the DCPA to the lively music scene at venues such as the CO symphony, Dazzle, La Cour Bistro and Art Bar, and even Jazz in the park every Sunday at the city park. That doesn’t even cover the expansive art scene we have when it comes to creators and exhibits being shown throughout the Santa Fe art district, MCA, and the DAM just to name a few; all of which do an excellent job of having a youth-outreach programs in which I could go To for free growing up and getting an exposure to these different works and forms of art.
What I like least about our city is probably the traffic! I love Denver as a whole, but traffic anywhere can be frustrating from time to time!
