Today we’d like to introduce you to Luke Klepec.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Luke. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The concept of The Lounge was conceived when the founder, Luke Klepec, was brainstorming low-cost ways to market his mobile app, Peep: The Study App. What better way was there to reach tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of college students than through social media marketing? Luke decided to start looking at niches for Instagram accounts that would ensure the most rapid rate of growth, with the sheer intention of using these accounts to market his future app. He started with the most simple one, college related memes. He grew this page to about 40,000 followers over the course of a year. It wasn’t long before he realized that he could produce a linear rate of growth on as many accounts as he wanted simultaneously. While in his senior year of college, he spent several hours each day just applying his growth tactics to anywhere between five and ten Instagram accounts at once. Once he had discovered the concept of an engagement group, he realized that they were oftentimes unreliable, so he set out to build his own engagement group in-house. He then formed this in-house engagement group that turned into The Lounge Network.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you had to overcome?
As I’m sure you could have guessed, the road has not been smooth; not at all! The biggest struggles we have come across thus far have been adapting to Instagram changes (especially algorithm changes) and overcoming shadowbans. I’m not sure if you’ve heard of a shadowban, but that basically means that Instagram has banned your posts from being visible to the explore feed and hashtag feed. This happens when posts are flagged by multiple individuals, sometimes coordinated by other competing networks or accounts. There have also been a few times that our posts have been removed for having recognizable songs in them.
We have also had some trouble with recruiting the right talent for The Lounge. We are always looking for qualified, highly-motivated self starters who are interested in digital media and becoming Lounge admins. Anyone who may be interested can simply direct message any of the Lounge accounts on Instagram at any time.
Please tell us about The Campus Lounge.
The Lounge Network is a network of eleven Instagram accounts that posts viral video content in order to eventually sell and promote products of any kind. It contains an intended very wide variety of niche accounts. The current Lounge accounts are as follows: @theanimallounge, @theartworklounge, @theathletelounge, @thecampuslounge, @thecosmeticslounge, @thedancelounge, @theexplorerslounge, @theimpossiblelounge, @thelaughinglounge, @theoutdoorslounge, and @thehungerlounge. Although Luke had lots of experience with Instagram accounts, he ended up starting most of these accounts from scratch and has reached a network-wide total of over 100,000 followers in just six months. One of the Lounge admins is his little sister, Kaitlyn Klepec, who is a pre-professional ballerina and makeup aficionado so, naturally, she runs The Dance Lounge and The Cosmetics Lounge. Although Luke is currently running The Lounge out of Cincinnati, Ohio, he has plans to spend time living in Denver to help support his sister who currently lives in Denver. Another admin is Jeff Dolson, a friend of Luke’s who went to Xavier University with Luke and now works in New York City. Jeff runs The Athlete Lounge and The Hunger Lounge. Bobby Killian, another good friend of Luke’s lives in Cincinnati as well and runs The Outdoors Lounge and The Explorer’s Lounge. Lastly, Jack Patton is yet another friend, as well as a former coworker of Luke’s and he manages The Laughing Lounge.
The Lounge currently has eleven accounts in the internal network, five admins with 3 in training, over 100,000 followers in under six months, and generates an average of 1,073,000 impressions per week this year
The Lounge averages of 70 posts per week.
The Lounge is growing at an average of +286 followers per day this whole year
The best post received 1,087,000 impressions.
The Lounge has featured over one thousand athletes, artists, and content creators.
The Lounge is building towards a vast external network and automated payment processing for influencer promotions.
They are also anticipating the launch of 5 more accounts by 2020
To simplify the whole vision, we plan to eventually be the next 9GAG that offers solutions to help make influencers operate more like businesses, and creates ongoing relationships and partnerships with artists, athletes, and entertainers who would like to represent The Lounge and be represented by The Lounge. We will also have an online store that sells products relating to each individual account and continue to curate the most viral video content.
