Today we’d like to introduce you to Carol Core.
Hi Carol , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was just a kid and we moved from Baltimore, Maryland to Denver Colorado. My Dad was transferred by Martin Marietta, who initially had the early contracts for NASA and the space program. I grew up in Denver, near the University of Denver and graduated from South High School. I went on to get two Associate degrees from Arapahoe Community College, then on to Regis University where I studied business.
Experience
I opened Southwest Plaza Shopping mall in 1983, as the Mall Marketing Director. It was then the biggest mall between Chicago and LA, at the time. After 3 years at the mall, I went on to Sentinel Newspapers, a group of weekly suburban newspapers spanning the metro Denver area. I was first hired as Sales manager for all the East newspapers, then publisher for all the West papers, and finally I was promoted to Marketing Director for all 14 publications. After five years, I moved into the book publishing arena. I took Cline-Fay Institute from being a small organization to a $7 million publishing company in my first year as Marketing Director, ultimately securing a sales team in NYC and tripling revenues in 4 years.
Next, I moved to Acropolis Books, a small, independent publisher with a new-age feel. I served as the VP of Marketing for over 3 years until I broke away to start my own marketing firm: Jane Doe Consulting. I worked with large and small companies, as well as many non-profits.
Almost 17 years ago, I jumped off the marketing ship and into finance. Funny move, as I always hated math growing up, but now I do math every day and I absolutely love it! I consider myself a financial strategist and have been a successful originator in the mortgage industry.
I am also a published author, speaker and humorist. My first book, 50 Sanity Saving Tips for Caregivers, was awarded the Caregiver Friendly award for 2018 by Caregiver Magazine and Caregver.com. I am passionate about care for caregivers, understanding that they are a priceless asset and the foundation of care for the elderly in the US today. I’m also a contributor to Jane Seymour’s book, The Road Ahead and so proud to be the Co-Author with my granddaughter, Lillie Sheppard, for her two children’s books New Shoes for Lilah and New Pet for Lilah. Carol and Lillie will publish New School for Lilah as part of the series in 2025.
When I am not figuring out some creative strategy for making a loan work or speaking to groups . . . I am enjoying my wonderful family, traveling the world or hanging with cherished friends. I love supporting live theatre performances and my favorite exercise is large-based trampolining!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
If you are actually living life and always trying to better yourself and your life . . . and that of your children and family, then there will always be struggles. It’s the struggles and the tough times that help us to learn. You have to have the tough stuff to realize how amazing all the good times are.
Unexpected job changes, relationships that end but all of it shapes who we become. I know I am the person I am today because of all the experiences I have had, the ups and downs; the people I have met a long the way and all of the places I have experienced. I am grateful for all of it!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Carol Core, is a seasoned residential mortgage lender, helping clients for over 16 years. She and her team work on every kind of loan: Purchase, Refinance, FHA, Conventional, Down Payment Assistance loans, and specialize in Reverse Mortgage/ Purchase and hard-to-close loans. Carol loves helping people, especially first-time home buyers, who thought they might never own a home, and loves the more complex deals, that most lenders won’t take on. Carol was again named a 5-star professional for 2024 and especially enjoys empowering women in the homebuying process.
Carol is honored to have worked beside the same team of dedicated, knowledgeable people for over eleven years. “These folks are amazingly talented. They know their stuff and they make me look good! We could not accomplish the work we do without this outstanding group of individuals.”
What does success mean to you?
For me, success is NOT about making millions and stepping on people along the way. Success for me is about making a good living, creating positive, meaningful and lasting relationships with family, friends and colleagues. It’s about helping people reach their dream of home ownership or finding a way to be more financially secure. It’s about giving them hope and strength, when maybe no one else would. It’s about leaving my little corner of the world a little better than I found it!
For me, success means continued learning, exploration, curiosity, joy, laughter, a positive attitude and always, always being grateful . . . every single day, for everything I have.
