Meet Caroline Kennedy of A Dash of Sweet Caroline in Arvada

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caroline Kennedy.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Caroline. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always had a passion for food. Everything about it excites me from grocery shopping to cooking to eating and discovering new restaurants and recipes, I love it all! Ever since I’ve had a camera on my cell phone I’ve been taking photos of my food. I used to send them to my friends and family whenever I made a good looking meal until a couple of my friends told me I should start my own food blog/Instagram. I took their advice to heart and started both my blog and Instagram account (@a_dash_of_sweet_caroline) about two years ago. I began to document my favorite recipes and finally had a place to post my food photos where they could be fully appreciated. It also opened up my mind and palate to different types of cuisine and I began to branch out of my comfort zone with my cooking. Now, I post all kinds of recipes and focus on simple, healthy creations that anyone can easily make.

I also started writing for the Food & Booze section of 303 Magazine about one year ago. I get to try restaurants around Denver, go to food events and write about them to bring awareness to small businesses and encourage locals to eat at family-owned restaurants rather than chains. Since I live in Arvada, I write about many restaurants in Arvada, Wheat Ridge and Golden and love to get people to branch out to these quickly growing suburban areas of Denver.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The hardest part has been dedicating time to these projects with a full-time job. I’ll sometimes go several months without posting on my blog if I’m really busy with work and my freelance writing and after that, it’s hard to get back into it. Balancing all of my projects with work and other hobbies I have has been a struggle but everything comes and goes in waves and I know that I’ll get back to certain projects when it feels right to me.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I run a blog and Instagram account about food. I focus on simple, healthy recipes and am always testing out new creations and sharing them with my followers. I also work with food brands to create content for them, drive traffic to their pages/accounts, write reviews, and create recipes that they can share with their customers. I am proud that I can honestly promote brands that I am passionate about and believe in. It’s easy to get caught up in posting for brands just for the benefits of free things, money, etc. but I am proud to say that I only promote brands that I love! The thing you’ll see a lot of on my feed is smoothies! I love smoothies and smoothie bowls and have them year-round, no matter what the temperature outside is. I love playing with superfoods, adaptogens and unique ingredients to create a combo that is nutritious and delicious.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel like perseverance is the most critical to my success. Even when I am not getting as much love on certain posts as I would expect I keep going and am happy doing what I do.
