Today we’d like to introduce you to Caroline Lofts.
Caroline, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My brother and father founded WorkAbility in 2018 with a single location (a renovated landmark Victorian Mansion) for roaming members in the heart of Capitol Hill. Over the following months, they launched a second location and began offering offices as well as coworking and a long list of impressive and inclusive amenities. These comprised off-street parking, a member courtesy shuttle, yoga & meditation, Spanish lessons, lunch & learns, member events and even a full breakfast spread each weekday morning.
The community started to grow slowly, but steadily and with each new partnership members gained access to a whole new stream of visionaries and leaders of industry. We are currently proud to be in partnership with Denver Startup Grind, Denver Startup Week, Founders Live, Denver Founders Group, Women Who Startup, Women of Denver, Second Act, 21st Century Cannabis, The Bank of Denver, and many more respected associations that directly serve the Colorado Startup community.
With a thriving membership and three new locations on the way (one a dedicated maker space), WorkAbility is looking forward to the future.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a family business, one of the main struggles we have faced is not having the capital to compete with more well-known entities in the digital marketing arena. Therefore we focus on our quality of service and rely on word of mouth and reputation. This has meant we’ve had a slower burn when it comes to filling our spaces, but also that our clients have had good reason to repeatedly recommend us.
Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about your work?
Our community sets us apart. While other spaces can become preoccupied with client churn, we have focussed heavily on customer success which has benefitted us as well as our clients greatly in the longer term. It has meant that very often a tour of the space turns into a reunion as old colleagues recognize each other and celebrate how far they have come, that clients want to grow within and not out of our space. We have become a hub for serial entrepreneurs and a support network for those just getting started. And we’re dog-friendly.
