Meet Cassandra Williams of Bonding and Behavior

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Cassandra Williams.

Cassandra Williams

Cassandra, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began as a psychotherapist after receiving my Master’s in Social Work and obtained my clinical licensure working in community mental health, primarily with families involved in the Department of Human Services (DHS).

This ranged from supporting biological parents to reunifying or maintaining custody of their children or helping children in the foster care system through therapy. It was at that time I became passionate in my pursuit of seeking trauma-informed interventions.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I am very privileged in my access to education and my support; that said, no road comes without bumps! Trauma has become a buzzword in the last couple of years, and evidence-based interventions for trauma are now more common.

That wasn’t the landscape when I entered this space. I received a lot of pushback from colleagues in community mental health for my focus on attachment and trauma-informed intervention even as I began my practice.

That said, survivors of trauma have always been on board! They know their needs are different than your typical cognitive talk therapy, and they’re the bravest fighters on the frontlines trying to receive the care they or their loved ones deserve.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
We are now a group practice; it is female-owned and operated. We specialize in trauma-educated psychotherapy. Our diverse team of women is what sets us apart, in addition to our dedication to seeking out evidence-based and holistic alternative methods to healing.

We offer EMDR, IFS, body-based therapies like somatic experiencing and yoga, reiki, and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy in addition to having the foundational skills in talk therapy. We don’t shy away from active trauma or high-conflict cases.

Who else deserves credit for your story?
The credit is never owed to one person. To name a few… My husband, Matt, has championed my vision for this practice for many years before it came to fruition and is a silent beam of support to our entire team.

Shandra Lazar, LCSW, a previous therapist in our practice, was one of the first to go out on a limb with me and offer these services in a conservative community. My existing team is phenomenal, and they have made the brand what it is today.

Allie Hauck, LPC, brought yoga into our practice in addition to expanding our clinical supervision, and Hannah McCauley, LSW, agreed to train in Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy not long after I began consistently practicing it despite ongoing resistance from competing professionals. The trust, endurance, professionalism, and sheer talent in healing all of our providers have is the heart and soul of what I do (Jessica Speight, MFT-c, Hailey Sands, LPC, and Betsy Ortega, LSW).

Our practice is also limited in the marketing we engage in. We have had the honor of working with many individuals and families over the years who are kind enough to pass along our information as healing professionals they trust, and that is really the highest compliment I receive.
