Today we’d like to introduce you to Charley and Jackie Bricker.
Charley and Jackie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Bricker’s Brew is a brother and sister duo who shares a passion of travel and coffee. While on our travels, we have enjoyed trying and tasting regional coffees from all over the world. Somewhat of a pastime for us would be talking with locals about where to find the best cup of coffee. There was always just something about the taste of that freshly roasted coffee that drew us! All of these encounters inspired us to share this experience with those around us. We then started roasting our own coffee as a pastime to share with family and friends, as it was hard to find freshly roasted beans that would deliver that perfect taste of coffee. A taste that would send us back to a story in time, a conversation had with a loved one, or a place traveled to and explored.
Once we saw how much people were enjoying our coffee, we decided to create Bricker’s Brew to expand our love of coffee to others. We wanted a symbiotic relationship with the coffee growers, roasters and drinkers that really connected. So we decided to roast only fair-trade beans from around the world. Our beans are roasted to order, so there is zero shelf life, thus giving the drinker the freshest and most enjoyable coffee. With hope that when someone takes that first sip of Bricker’s Brew, they are transformed to a place they have traveled to, a conversation they have had, or a memory of a loved one.
We were able to further this experience when we took a trip to Tanzania for a safari. Little did we expect, but there was an instant connection between us and Tanzania the moment we got off the plane. As they say, some trips were just meant to be, and this one of them! We enjoyed everyone we encountered. We befriended our driver, Alfred, who became family very quickly. We shared stories, spoke about family and wound up on the topic of coffee. We quickly found out that Alfred had a family coffee plantation at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. Today, the Kilimanjaro Bean is a Bricker’s Brew exclusive that comes from Alfred’s farm in Tanzania.
This type of experience is what Bricker’s Brew is all about! A story we can share, people connecting from around the world and memories that will last forever. Uniting people through coffee!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Some struggles have been getting peoples to interest in the website and getting our name out there.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bricker’s Brew – what should we know?
We roast fair-trade, single-origin coffee. Roasted to individuals liking and shipped directly to their door. We have a special bean, the Kilimanjaro bean, that comes from our direct source and grown at the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro. We are proud to be able to help small growers in their communities. Then by custom roasting those beans, it allows the coffee enthusiast to connect with the origin of that bean.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Our Mom. We took the trip to Tanzania with her. She is our biggest supporter and cheerleader. Our family who has supported us as well with some purchases of coffee. Alfred, who we have shared stories and the love of coffee with.
