Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Pelle.
Chris, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I founded Complete Canine Training after falling in love with training dogs in 2013. It a pretty interesting that I went out and bought a German Shepherd and had no idea what I was getting into. I was walking her down the street a week later and a random neighbor asked if I needed help training her. I sure did! Once I started working with her and watching her grow and develop, I fell in love with the process of training dogs. I began to learn everything I could. I mentored under two different trainers, one for obedience and one for training personal protection dogs. I started going to conferences and training seminars all over the country. I read countless books on canine behavior and training methodology. I was hooked on helping dogs and families co-exist in harmony. I also fell in love with getting bit, yes, I am a crazy guy who enjoys being bitten by personal protection dogs and police K9s! My passion for dogs has grown from teaching bad dogs how to be good, to teaching Police K9s how to bite, find drugs or bombs, and track humans! This year we are expanding, building a new facility for our police K9s and looking to open up another location in Northern CO and also in Colorado Springs for pet training!
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. The dog world is very confusing and when you think you have it figured out, something changes. The industry as a whole is very “dog eat dog” (pun intended). This is discouraging to a lot of people, including me, but with enough tenacity and grit, I was able to find some really great people to be-friend and we help each other navigate the craziness! Another struggle I’ve faced is learning how to run a business and managing a good work-life balance. There is always something that needs to be done and the to-do list seems to never end!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Complete Canine Training story. Tell us more about the business.
Complete Canine Training is a full-service dog training company. We work with any breed, any age, any size, and any problem! We really have two specialties with the dogs we train, creating harmony in pet dog homes across Colorado and training police K9s and personal protection dogs to help protect the citizens all over the USA.
We are best known for our results with training pet dogs because that is the majority of the work we do locally. There are a lot more pet dogs than Police K9s and Personal Protection Dogs. The biggest thing that sets us apart from other dog trainers is that when you work with us, you’re not only working with us for the training package duration, you have us for life! We have a training guarantee, lifetime group classes and lifetime support for all of our clients that complete any training program with us.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The industry is always getting more competitive and we are learning more about dog behaviors and learning theories. So in 5-10 years, I see the industry only getting more effective with better training techniques and a better understanding of canine behavior and learning. I don’t think we will see a big shift unless major scientific breakthrough is discovered.
