Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Brown.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Christine. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My love for photography started when I was young. It was the idea of being able to capture a story in a split second and share it with the world. The idea of capturing a person’s internal thoughts, their spirit, and their emotions in an instant was awe inspiring. I have always wanted to help, so I figured that I could help people and businesses capture their stories to share with the world. So I decided to get my undergrad in Marketing (also a Master’s later on in life) to have a better understanding of business and then moved to Santa Barbara to attend photography school. The school seemed to be the perfect place for me to hone my craft, but soon after I started I found out that all the school wanted was my money.
After a finding that out, I wanted to transfer, only to find out that my credits were not transferrable . So instead I finished up one last class with an amazing celebrity photographer John Russo and assisted him and another photographer in LA. Through assisting I came to understand that my purpose is to connect with people, discover who they are, and how to capture it on film. People are truly amazing and awe-inspiring, I love hearing their story, finding out what makes them tick, and how to capture their unique story on film. I think we can all learn something by just listening and opening our hearts to others.
After finishing that I moved up to the Monterey area, with my soon to be husband and that is where I started photographing for 65 Degrees, a Caramel/San Francisco Magazine. I loved capturing the stories for their articles, as well as, helping the businesses create commerical images to represent their brand. The magazine found ways to highlight people of the Monterey area and how they are making an impact on the world around us. Since then I have photographed many weddings, portraits, as well as, taken images for Verizon Wireless, L’Occitane, and other local businesses.
About three years ago my husband and I decided it was time to move back home to Colorado. The move allowed us to be closer to family and hopefully, one day create a family of our own. Even though I loved living in the Bay, it is wonderful to be back home and capturing the stories of the amazing people in Colorado.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have had my share of twists and turns on my journey to follow my dreams. There were endless days where I got little to no sleep, trying to finish school projects at night, then going to work early in the morning just to get out in time to make it to class. Brook’s Institute of Photography allowed me to hone my craft, but it came at a cost that I am still going through to date. The teachers were amazing, but the school itself took me for a ride and with that my road to my dreams has taken longer than I wished.
There are also the days I think that we all face at some point in our life, career, or otherwise where we second guess if we are taking the best path. Some days it seemed as if the sun wouldn’t shine and nothing would go right. But one way or another I found my way out of those times and the sun would shine again. In my opinion, we will always have struggles along the way, it is how we deal with them that shows us our true inner self.
Tell us more about your work.
Christine Muro Photography specializes in commercial and editorial portraiture. We assist companies and magazines in creating and capturing images that tell a story. Besides capturing images that elevate brands, we enjoy getting to know more about the company and building relationships with the people who make the business work. It is those relationships that make it worth while and enjoyable. We stand out from other photographers not only with our stunning images but our background in business and marketing as well. We enjoy commercial and editorial photography because each day, each project, and each company is fun and unique.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I am not sure if I believe in luck… I think things happen for a reason, wither it is your hard work and dedication or it’s the universe telling you there is a different plan/path for you. Things happen for a reason be it luck, destiny, Devine intervention, or karma and it is up to us to decide how we use it or interpret it.
