Meet Christopher Clark

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Clark.

Christopher, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been an artist as long as I can remember. Since I was a little kid, I’ve always identified as an artist. I used to watch Bob Ross on TV and follow along with my crayons. After many jobs and careers over the years, and struggling to pursue art as a full-time career, I was able to make it my “day job” about six years ago, and things have only gotten better since then. I moved to Denver in 2014 and created a flourishing body of work of fine art subjects – landscapes, figures, cityscapes, wildlife, surrealism, etc – in an impressionist style of oil painting, selling online and in numerous fine art galleries.

I caught the attention of John McIntire, owner of the Incredible Art Gallery in Denver, and he introduced me and got me signed with Lucasfilm and Marvel, and since my clients have also included George Lucas himself, the Colorado Rockies, Louisville Slugger Bats, and Fender Guitars, among others. I recently began showing at Abend Gallery in Denver. I travel the country to do art shows, as well as to study with master painters as I continually pursue a higher art education.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Haha, I don’t think any artist has ever had a “smooth road”. But it’s always a worthy struggle. Art is the story of our culture, and I’m honored to be a storyteller of our time – telling the tales of our world, sharing visions of our beauty and difficulty, our struggles and desires, and ultimately hoping people will resolve those stories into something greater than we are now.

My struggles to become a professional artist are much like anyone else’s, which is overcoming society’s general sentiment that you’ll be a “starving artist”, and you should get a “real job”. Being an artist is a great and honorable pursuit, and you can make a living at it, and it can grow to be a very satisfying career.

Tell us more about your art.
On a surface level, I create original oil paintings and prints of some of these paintings, to sell in galleries, online, and in art shows. On a deeper level, I tell the stories of our culture. The one comment I hear most from people about my art is the sense of light I’m able to communicate, a luminous quality that makes my paintings glow, so I gather that this might be unique in my style of painting.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I think you make your own luck. Everyone has opportunities that present themselves once in a while, and it’s your job to have the courage to seize them. If one passes you by, another will come along, just stick to your guns (or your brushes, haha) and never give up.
