Meet Dr. Christopher Dorsa of Pro Performance Chiropractic in Thornton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Christopher Dorsa.

Dr. Dorsa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a Chiropractor and I opened my practice in January of 2020 specializing in Sports, prenatal, and wellness care. But, it all started with me being a real skeptic of chiropractic, due to a poor experience with one who I had seen for a wrestling injury in high school. Fast forward to undergrad, I was at University of Miami as a premed student. During those years, I had two hip surgeries and a hand surgery, so I was familiar with the orthopedic specialty and I was sure I wanted to take that route.

However, while I was sending out med school applications, I was also taking a class called Complementary & Alternative Medicine where a new speaker would visit and talk about their profession each class, one of the class a chiropractor with the Miami Dolphins came in and I was in amazement to see professional athletes receiving this type of care. Needless to say, this opened my eyes to the level of care and outcomes that were possible through chiropractic work.

I was truly hooked after shadowing a few physical therapists and chiropractors so I moved to Northern California to attend Palmer College of Chiropractic West, which is known for its focus on sports chiropractic. After finishing the Doctor of Chiropractic Program, I moved to Denver to finish my preceptorship. Since then, I’ve been motivated to help those around me the same way I saw the speaker that attended my very first class and the chiropractors I initially shadowed with my own twist that I bring through certification that truly complements the care I can offer.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’ve been extremely fortunate to have had a smooth road to success, despite opening in 2020 and having to close down for a month due to COVID-19 restrictions, I saw this as an opportunity to double down on what I could offer through streamlining administrative processes and office procedures so I could grow faster and offer better care all at the same time. I was also able to redesign my front office, waiting room and even emphasize creating my own educational YouTube channel to focus on engagement no matter what the future brings. When Pro Performance’s doors were reopened, my patient care growth doubled within two months.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Pro Performance Chiropractic – what should we know?
As a sports chiropractor, I’ve been trained well beyond injuries of just the spine; other specialties I have extensive training in include prenatal care, spinal cord injuries, motor vehicle accident care, and overall wellness care. Before starting my own practice (Pro Performance) I worked in a practice specializing in prenatal care, which to my surprise has become a major passion of mine. My office is connected to a gym (CrossFit Eminence) which I work closely with as I have a background in personal training and coaching. Adjacent to the office is an adaptive rehabilitative center (NeuAbility), where I work with patients who have experienced spinal cord injury, stroke, amputation, MS, Parkinson’s, Cerebral Palsy and other forms of paralysis.

Having experience with such a diverse population base has greatly increased the quality of care I can offer to an even wider variety of patients. Because of this, I focus on taking the time to evaluate, educate and come up with a treatment plan specific to each individual. Aside from general chiropractic care, I use several different manual therapy techniques including muscle release technique, scraping, and kinesiology taping. Other modalities used include class IV infrared laser therapy for inflammation-based injuries, scaring to help speed up the healing process, and a decompression table that can be used for both low back and neck injuries. This robust personal history, tools, and techniques all at my disposal Pro Performance Chiropractic has really set its self apart from practices that specialize in just spinal care.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I’ve grown up surrounded by amazing mentors who’ve helped me to be the person I am today and motivated me to create more than I thought possible. My radiology professor, Dr. Bedle, was the biggest advocate in starting my own practice as soon as possible. Working for an older doctor is the traditional route, but beyond a year the knowledge gained is negligible and the comfort level can be dangerous to the success of your own career. Following his advice, I got hands-on help from my best friend Ryan Budden, an entrepreneur who has started countless business both successes and failures. Acting on his guidance made for an extremely fast start, with minimal research and few mistakes. My dad, who has worked in healthcare his whole life, was forced to be my free consultant listening to my thoughts, ideas, and decisions every morning and night on my drives back and forth to the office. Without the guidance of these people and the help from many more Pro Performance Chiropractic would not be as successful or maybe not even be in existence at this time.
