Meet Coleen Sanders of LIV Sotheby’s International Realty in Cherry Creek

Today we’d like to introduce you to Coleen Sanders.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan in a real estate family. My great grandfather started his own real estate company in the 1940s, where my grandfather, grandmother, father and mother worked. My entire family is in real estate.

After I graduated from college, I ran away from the business to work in fashion marketing in New York City. I worked as a Corporate Director for Condé Nast Publications and executed multi-million dollar marketing programs for Vogue, Vanity Fair, Architectural Digest, GQ, & other luxury brands for 10+ years.

I found myself moving to Denver in 2011 after marrying a Denver-native (Zack Sanders) and having a daughter in NYC. My line of work did not translate to Denver and my family encouraged me to get my real estate license. Once I started on that path, I never looked back and joined LIV Sotheby’s International Realty in 2012 – before the Denver real estate boom.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The biggest adjustment and challenge was moving from New York City to Denver. It was not an easy transition for me. Denver was not as big as it is today. It felt like I woke up one day to find myself in a new town, a new mother, trying to make new friends, etc. No one knew me and my background. I had never not worked. It was a lot of changes all at once. And while I loved being at home with my children, I knew I was the best version of myself when I was working.

LIV Sotheby’s International Realty – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a residential real estate broker specializing in the Denver metro area. I work with LIV Sotheby’s International Realty* – one of the top luxury real estate firms in the world.

I am fortunate to work with people in all different professions, moving from all over the U.S, and Colorado. My line of business is very people-oriented and I love connecting with and helping people. This business has also given me the opportunity to be involved in the Denver community.

I think I am best known for keeping the “real” in real estate. I know the market inside and out and I provide my clients with as much knowledge as possible, so they can make the best informed decisions. I love interior design and architecture, so I am able to offer staging expertise to help clients get their home market ready and net more money.

I love being my own boss and having the flexibility to grow my own business. In real estate, your business grows with you, in every stage of life, and if you put in the work; you will see the results.

*LIV Sotheby’s is the leading luxury real estate firm in the state of Colorado, with a presence spanning metro Denver and surrounding areas, including Boulder, Castle Rock, Cherry Creek, Denver Tech Center, downtown Denver, Evergreen as well as the resort communities of Breckenridge, Crested Butte, Dillon, Telluride, Winter Park and the Vail Valley.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
It’s funny to reflect back to my early career days and think about how I defined success. It was defined by how high you were in the corporate chain. It was all about the title you had and how many people you oversaw and managed on your team. After witnessing the economic downturn in 2008 and watching top executives get ‘let go’ after dedicating their lives to a company that was not their own; I knew that “success” was something different and had a deeper meaning for me…

Success is showing up in life. It’s showing up in work, your marriage, with your children/family, in your workouts. It’s being present in everything you do, including the little things. Maya Angelou defines it best…”Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.” I think it’s that simple.
