In 2023, my journey brought me to Denver, Colorado, where I’ve continued to evolve as a wedding and brand photographer. I’ve embraced soft colors, fun and playful energy, and a dreamy aesthetic that speaks to both timeless romance and modern vibrancy. Today, Colleens Captures is a reflection of my passion for crafting heartfelt, meaningful images that feel as unique as the stories they tell.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to building Colleens Captures has been anything but smooth, yet every challenge has fueled my growth as a photographer. Starting during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, I focused on offering affordable photography that didn’t compromise on quality or creativity. This taught me to embrace a balance between accessibility and the dreamy, documentary-style images I love to create.
Relocating from Maui to Denver in 2023 was a leap of faith and a pivotal chapter in my journey. While I wasn’t personally affected by the Lahaina fires, the economic ripple effects reshaped the local market and prompted my move. Rebuilding my business in a new city was daunting—I left behind a strong network of referrals and a deeply rooted creative community. Without the established connections I had in Maui, I had to reintroduce myself as a wedding and brand photographer to a completely new audience.
Denver’s vibrant and diverse landscape inspired me to embrace fresh artistic challenges, from capturing playful, soft-colored brand shoots to dreamy, love-filled wedding moments. Reaching clients who value meaningful storytelling while maintaining affordability has been a rewarding balancing act.
These struggles have pushed me to stay true to my vision: creating timeless, heartfelt, and accessible photography that turns fleeting moments into cherished memories. Each challenge has made me more resilient, inspiring me to keep growing while bringing joy and artistry into every session I capture.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a mix of dreamer and doer—a creative soul with a curiosity for the world around me. I spent my childhood exploring nature and diving into imaginative projects, always drawn to the beauty in the everyday. My time at a Waldorf school in Kimberton, Pennsylvania, had a profound impact on me. It fostered my love for creativity, storytelling, and connection, and gave me the confidence to embrace my unique perspective.
I’ve always been drawn to art in its many forms, whether it was painting, writing, or crafting something with my hands. Photography eventually became my favorite medium because it allowed me to capture moments in real time—turning fleeting feelings into something tangible and timeless.
Personality-wise, I was outgoing but introspective, a natural observer who loved to connect with others on a deeper level. I had a knack for noticing the little things, which is something I carry into my photography today. Even as a kid, I found joy in helping others see the beauty in themselves and their surroundings.
Looking back, my childhood laid the foundation for my passion as a photographer. It shaped my love for storytelling, my attention to detail, and my belief in the magic of capturing life as it truly is.
