Today we’d like to introduce you to Cyncie Winter.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Cyncie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I remember painting when I was in kindergarten on great big pieces of paper on easels in the sunshine, watching the tempura paint drip down. My teacher would look at my work and say, “Cyncie, you can’t paint your blouse blue or your skirt green. We need to tell the difference between you and the sky and the grass.” Well, I knew as a wise child that there was no difference between me and the grass and the sky…and I still feel that way.
I have painted with that same purpose all my life, believing that we have the potential to connect with everything that surrounds us. I have studied the great masters in art through the superb guidance of wonderful teachers who taught me to see with an intuitive eye. Along the way, I’ve experimented with different mediums–watercolor, oil, and, in the past several years, worked exclusively with acrylic on canvas. I show in galleries and art centers and a variety of other classy venues and am lucky enough to be collected nationally.
I am also a psychotherapist, a life coach, and a certified creativity coach, and I find that all the things I do are intertwined in a lovely way. I love working with the creative mind and with people’s visions of what they are longing to manifest in their lives. It’s a way to empower each individual to find their individual paths of the heart–their Bright Star, so to speak. To that end, I also work with a wonderful partner in a highly successful art coaching business, which offers workshops, retreats, and individual sessions to empower creative expression in all its forms.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think that the road toward manifesting your life’s purpose is never really smooth. In fact, we learn powerful things from navigating the bumps, from stumbling and tripping and groping with uncertainty, learning to have faith in what we are being offered to learn.
I have moved between a variety of careers–being an English teacher for 32 years with fabulous students, getting two master’s degrees, making barely enough money to survive at times, losing loved ones, wandering and wondering. But those challenges never stopped my curiosity, my desire to create, my call to serve in some way. It’s been a grand ride, actually, and the harvest has been rich.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I have four businesses actually–as a licensed professional counselor, life coach, creativity coach and professional artist. What makes me unique is my ability to weave together all of these modalities to address each person’s needs. I bring an intuitive and empathic perspective to the process, as well as a blending of wisdom from both practical and personal experience, garnered from having lived my life with an open, inquiring mind.
I also believe that we all have the power to invite healing and transformation into our lives so that we can manifest our greatest creative potential and expression. The question “What is this life becoming?” lies at the heart of each person’s courageous and soulful journey. As challenging as the journey may seem, it can also provide the possibility of a new sense of direction to our lives, and the ability to feel wiser, happier, and empowered.
I seek those things for myself and for my clients, through all the facets of my work.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is about finding and embracing our personal path and all the gifts that we have been given to bring to the world. When we go through difficult times, we are actually embarking on a heroic journey with three stages–Separation, Initiation, and Return to the World. These are markers that can help us learn to navigate those times–to explore what it means to find the path up high, the heartbreaking open.
Whether I am working with people to help them find what they are seeking or painting something from an intuitive place, I look for what is trying to come through to enlarge our experience of life. Life has a wisdom that is deeper than we can ever anticipate. My paintings are always my teachers. And it’s also a lot of fun when something turns out to be beautiful!
