Meet Dango Rose of Elephant Collective in Downtown Boulder

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dango Rose.

Dango, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After Elephant Revival decided to go on #Hiatus in May of 2018, I decided to re-focus my attention on artist development, songwriting collaborations and production work by founding the Elephant Collective. After seventeen years on the road and over twenty years in the music industry, it feels refreshing to share with our community in new and different ways.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Getting off the road isn’t necessarily an easy thing. Couple this with the rupturing of family and tribal bonds and the near disillusionment of a business… Well, it’s like losing your job after nearly twenty years with no warning, no alternative plans, no benefits, et al… This, of course, is another story all together luckily, one that I’ve captured in season one of my satirical YouTube series #Hiatus There is always a silver lining…..

Tell us more about your work.
At the very core, we focus on the needs of the artist. Recognizing, that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. It’s the age old adage that Elephant Revival was founded upon. Yes, there is no song without the songwriter but it’s bigger than that. Always has been, always will be. There’s more to the picture than meets the eye. We try to infuse the collaborative methodology into everything that we do, and it shines through in our productions. The work we do is abstract, yet tangible. It’s very unique and is constantly evolving outdated models of artist development, old school production and new age performance.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’d rather term it as intuition and synchronicity. I remember stepping out of an old Ford Van in Portland Oregon on one of my first nationwide tours with High on the Hog back in 2002. There on a random neighborhood street corner was a box of vinyl records with Sting’s Synchronicity sitting on top. I found this to be quite odd yet life-affirming. I decided that day to open myself to the magic and synchronicity that occurs every day, yet is ofttimes invisible… It’s a fine-tuned skill that I forget all too often. That day and for the duration of that tour, magic did occur. I’ll never forget the teachers I encountered along the way. It occurred because I was open and willing to receive it. The ways we open ourselves are different for everyone, yet it all really comes back to Presence, breath and connection to the natural world. We combine all of this into what we do at the Elephant Collective, and I’d like to thank Sting for this.
