Meet Dania Brissett of Versatile Lens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dania Brissett.

Dania, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I was always told that I had to go to a good school and get an education with the promise of being able to become “whatever you want to be”. I had never thought of turning a craft/ hobby into a business, it was something that just didn’t seem feasible to me. It wasn’t until I noticed that my mentor had turned her craft into a viable business that something sparked in me; “I could turn my passion into a profit”. I’ve always wanted to go to work and be happy about what I am doing, but surprisingly I haven’t always wanted to do photography. At the age of ten, I was on social media when I shouldn’t have been and when it all got taken away, I would watch YouTube on most days. Eventually, I would start to wonder how people would edit their videos and start looking up tips & tricks. I would plan, film and edit videos just for no one to see them. When I started my business at the age of 12, my focus was for videography but for some reason, I still added photographer on my business card. People would book me for photography, I had no idea what I was doing, little did I know It was a new passion of mine.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been an easy road especially being a student entrepreneur my priorities has always been to ensure that I stayed on top of my grades, on top of my business, and not stress or overwhelm myself. One of my struggles along the way would have to be when everything shut down during COVID-19 pandemic. Being a service-based business when society stood still with many companies being shut down there is no need for event photography or photoshoots. I had to find a way to be innovative, so I started making YouTube intros and promoting my video editing services.

Versatile Lens – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Versatile Lens is a photography, videography, and editing company. We are versatile and don’t like to limit ourselves to any specific type of photography. However, we mainly do events and photoshoots. I am most proud of my company for creating everlasting moments that people can look on forever. We help the moment never go away. Something that sets us apart from others is that we are a one-stop-shop where we provide not only your photography service but your videography and editing services as well.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far would have to be the overall growth and knowledge I have gained. No matter how hard it becomes, I push myself. With entrepreneurship, you are often placed in situations that cause you to evolve and gain new skills and knowledge such as scheduling and organizing, or even that not everyone is going to support you and so much more. I know that no matter how much I’ve learned my learning is never done there is always room for more. I am proud of how I am handling being a student entrepreneur at only 16, It isn’t easy but I know that all of my hard work will pay off. I want so much more for myself, so I am going to continue to strive and work even harder.
