Meet Danielle Barton of Clean Break in Colorado Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Barton.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Danielle. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story starts with the desire to lead by example and be true to myself. For several years I worked as the Area coach for a large restaurant chain. I was very good at my job and took to the role with ease. However, they were the most depleting years of my life. I was caught in this cycle of being overworked, under-appreciated and required to sacrifice my personal life to accommodate my job. I scheduled my wedding for my day off so I wouldn’t miss work, I worked a full shift the day we brought our adoptive daughter home from the hospital, and I had nothing left to give my family at the end of the day. At work, I was chastised for not being hard enough on my employees or incentivizing them too much. Like most people, this was normal, a part of being an “adult”, a part of working for brands that you didn’t create. For me, I knew that there had to be something more, something different.

We have the amazing gift of building our family through adoption, foster to adopt specifically. We found out our daughter existed on a Sunday, met her the next day and brought her home on Thursday. Needless to say, life and my interpretation of it changed almost instantly. When our daughter was 6 months old we found out that birth parents were pregnant again and nine months we had our beautiful son. It was the most amazing thing ever and I would never be the same.

If there is ever a reason to run headfirst into fear and uncertainty, it’s to be a person you want your kids to look up to and take example from. I was miserable and to be honest, already terrified! As fate always has it when you are searching, someone was sent to me who believed in me as much as I believed in myself. I joke that my business started over a great cup of tortilla soup, but it started because two like-minded people knew I could do great things with just a little nudge.

So, I texted my wife and said: ” I know we just bought a new house and had a new baby and you rely on my income, but, I’m quitting my job and starting a business”!!! She said okay! A few months and a ton of really powerhouse creatives later and I launched Clean Break. Growing up cleaning was deeply integrated in my life. I am spouse described “clean freak” and can clean for hours without losing steam. Even more than my love for cleaning is my love for helping. I actually get to make lives easier for people. I get to give them time and moments that they would otherwise spend being frustrated that they have to clean up after people. We specialize in move-in/move out cleans. For me, that means I am actually preparing a home someone is going to make a lifetime of memories in.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t think small business ownership or starting a business is easy for anyone. Life is easier when all you have to do is carry out the plan. When you have to make it, that’s a whole different story. There are amazing ideas you think you have, that aren’t really that great. There are costs, finding employees that believe in your brand and message, trial and error with technique and practices and wondering if you might ever make enough money to support the kids you did all this for. So many things can seem like struggles and they are, but overall, I am so much happier and the bumps in this road are so much more gratifying

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Clean Break story. Tell us more about the business.
Clean Break is a local cleaning company. The vision behind Clean Break is take stress off people’s plates and allow them to have more moments dong the things they love or even the things they just have to do. We specialize in real estate cleans and try our hardest to make the process of buying or selling as easy as possible by getting the home ready. Whether that’s getting it ready to show or sell, or even ready to move in, we help give homes blank slates for new memories.

I am most proud of the relationships that are made with the amazing people that we get to clean for. We have been through weddings, births, birthdays, first homes and even losses. We get to be a part of the families and love them as we do our own. Someone once said to me, the two people who get the most personal in your life are your banker and your cleaner. It’s true!

I think what sets us apart is that I have a love for my community. I am a Colorado native. This is my home and these are my people. I want to support my community and give them someone local they can count on to do a good job and value more than the money. Also, my employees mean the world to me. Without them, I am literally nothing but one lonely little house cleaner. They carry my passion and love for the job. I treat them with the value they deserve and they go into the homes of our clients with fire to be the best fro them.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I am not sure if I believe in luck. Or at least I do when things don’t go my way (bad luck is a very convenient scapegoat). If I did believe in luck I would say that a string of bad luck led me to where I am today. I grew up very hard and never came from a world or family that owning your own business, or even not struggling through life, was something you did. I was never told this was something I could do. In my personal life, I made a lot of bad decisions and always seemed to be on the path of most resistance. Through all that, I learned that life is only what you make it and only you really dictate what happens in the end.
