Meet Danna Frost of Danna Frost Photography in Monument

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danna Frost.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Danna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was living in Dallas, TX when I first knew I wanted to become a photographer. I was working in the corporate world with an entry-level salary. I had no clue how I was even going to begin becoming a photographer with how expensive the equipment was. My husband and I had the opportunity to move to Canada and work for a friend. There we had no rent or utilities to pay for so I was able to save up and buy my first Nikon DLSR camera. When I bought the camera I had no clue on how to even use it or what any of the buttons were for. So I started reading and watching YouTube videos. We were living on a very small island so they only thing I had there to practice on was our dogs and the landscape. Once I figured out how to operate my camera, I did a couple of free sessions for a couple of the locals. I just loved it and knew this is what I truly wanted to do.

We moved back to the states in November of 2012 and I started charging $50 for my family sessions. Photographing families was great as it gave me the opportunity to learn more but I knew from the get-go that my passion was weddings. I had no clue how I was even going to get started in wedding as I had never even shot one. I came across an ad looking for an amateur photographer to second shoot for a company called All Digital Photo and Video. This was my key to getting into the wedding industry. I just wanted to build my portfolio and gain experience. It didn’t take long for me to become one of their lead photographers.

I’m not quite sure what year it was but one wedding season I feel like everything just clicked for me. I knew the style I was going for and I was confident in my work. I also started to really understand how to edit my photos. I also discovered that I love everything about natural looking wedding photos. I love natural light, poses, and emotions. I’m also a sucker for the dramatic images. I went from not knowing how to operate a camera to photographing 35+ weddings a year without one class teaching me how to do so.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My photography road has been one of the easiest yet hardest things I’ve done. I had never had to juggle a full-time job and my photography business. I started my photography all in. I have a family to support so I knew I had to make this work. When I started my business, I didn’t have any kids but we were gonna start trying soon. I knew I wanted to stay home with my children but I still needed the full-time income. Every year the number of weddings I shot kept going up until I started to limit my self. I’m now a stay at home mom while running a full-time wedding photography business.

I feel that having a business degree really helped me understand how to market myself and get my name out there. It took a lot of time and work but I did it!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Danna Frost Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
