Meet Danyelle Butler of Art Haus Ceramics in Greeley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danyelle Butler.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Danyelle. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I studied visual arts at UNC in Greeley which is where Jared and I met. We were both passionate about creating and found each other in the studio constantly. We are really lucky to have a bond in pushing each other creatively and keeping a good work flow when we are both in the studio. After graduating in 2010, Jared was hired as a middle school art teacher and I chose to really take over managing and selling our art. What started as an online Etsy shop shipping our pottery has turned into us being accepted to local galleries selling mostly locally with Jared in painting & myself in pottery. I enjoy staying involved helping run and staff our local co-op galleries along with bartending on the weekends at the Kress. We love living in Greeley and being a part of the vibrant arts community here!

Has it been a smooth road?
We have always worked multiple jobs with Jared teaching and myself in hospitality which has taken a lot of the pressure off of being successful. And also made us work twice as hard for our dream. There have been a lot of late nights finishing pots and getting the kiln loaded! I would say the biggest obstacle as young artists was needing a studio and tools to get started. Finding the right rental, saving to buy our kiln, slab roller, chemicals for glazing. Just about every dollar we made in our first few years we invested into buying our own home and converting our garage to a studio workspace.

Please tell us about your work.
I specialize in functional pottery. My work is utilitarian with whimsical surface decorations. I do a lot of custom requests with personalized touches that make a piece incredibly special for the user & owners of my work! It is a treat for me to be a part of special gift giving and I love the joy my work brings to people in their everyday interactions with my handmade objects!

I am most proud of being to give back and invest in other young artists. After ten years running my little company, I can help give advice and support to artists standing where we did! This is another great perk to living in the college town where we went to school – a great network of professors who stay in touch and feel like they can use us as a resource and vice versa!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the network of Greeley creatives who constantly support and build each other up. It feels like we are all on the same team here! I wish our downtown art walk felt more unified – downtown Greeley is going through massive renovations and additions and my hope is that it comes through the other side feeling more connected and inclusive to our entire population!
