Today we’d like to introduce you to Dario Montoya.
Dario, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Sure, so after high school I did what you were supposed to do. You know, go to school, get decent grades, graduate, the whole deal. I got my degree which allowed me to work in the medical field specifically in surgery. At the time, I thought that’s what I wanted to do. I was pretty much set but once I was actually doing the job and working what seemed like an eternity, I realized that this wasn’t my path in life. I was searching for something more but I just couldn’t put my finger on it.
Some time passed and I was introduced to a man who later became my first mentor in business. I pretty much dropped what I was doing at the hospital to go work with this guy. Kind of like that scene in Wolf of Wall Street. You know, the one where Jonah Hill’s character calls and quits his job on the spot. Just like that. I was so fed up with my situation that I knew I had to make a change and take a chance.
Trust me it was scary but well worth it. Under his wing, I was able to travel to really awesome places and meet incredible people from all walks of life. This gave me the opportunity to really gain perspective on the world and try new things which I’m very grateful for as this is what shaped me to who I am now.
Fast forward I’ve brought all of those experiences and newly developed skill sets in running a multiple businesses. A lifestyle company called LIV’N. We sell apparel and host events as well as another company that specializes in 3D virtual tourism.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In short no but it’s not supposed to be. I was taught very early in the game that nothing in life that is worthwhile comes easy. If you have a dream or a business idea you better believe that you are going to be working your ass off to achieve that dream. Most of that work however will be overcoming obstacles and solving problems.
You will be constantly tested day in and day out. The beauty of it though is you get to find out what you are made of! This is exactly what happened to me. There was a point in my career where I had lost everything. My place, my car, my girl, my job, literally everything. It wasn’t looking good I had no money and had really lost faith in myself.
I used to go to the library to get my work done and kill the day. I remember going down the youtube wormhole and stumbling across a motivational video that featured the comedian Joe Rogan. He had said something that really shifted my mindset and quite frankly put me back on the right path. The whole idea behind the video was, “Be the hero of your own movie”
If your life was a movie, what would the hero of your life’s movie do right now? I always kept that in the forefront of my thoughts and that has helped carry me through some of the most challenging moments of my life and career.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about 3D Simple Solutions – what should we know?
3D Simple Solutions specializes in cutting edge 3D visual marketing and virtual tourism.
We have this really cool infrared 3D camera technology that enables viewers to experience and explore real-world spaces in stunning 4k virtual reality. We try to make everything super simple (hence our name) so our tours can be viewed by simply sharing a link or embedding the code directly to your website. The 3D interactive tours are hosted online and viewable by desktops, tablets, and smartphones from anywhere you have an internet connection. We work in many different industries ranging from residential real estate to travel and hospitality to engineering and construction.
One of the things I am most proud of though as a company is we also partner with Google to help business owners showcase their interior space onto Google Maps helping their customers get a better sense of the space. This has helped so much not only for our sake but we’ve seen a direct correlation of increased business for our customers with the integration of the tour into Google Maps.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I think I could literally write a book on all of the people who deserve credit for the role they’ve all played in my success. You never get anywhere significant in life by yourself. If you remember I mentioned one of my mentors earlier. His name is Taylor Holland. He’s easily one of the most brilliant people that I know. I had just turned 19 when we first met and I could just tell this dude was bred different.
Only a couple of years older than me and he already had two businesses, was a former manager for the corporate side of Target, a consultant for a travel company, and was having a blast traveling the world. I wanted to do what he did so I literally raised my hand and said take me too. I laugh to this day about it. The importance of personal development and character building is crucial. The version of yourself that you see is successful is not the version you are now. You have to grow into that person. He taught me that.
The biggest influence though is no doubt my childhood friend Joseph Whitney. Chances are if you know me on a personal level then you know Joseph. We’ve known each other since kindergarten so that’s pretty much my brother right there. He’s my business partner in 3D Simple Solutions and is also a super talented DJ / Producer. He’s the reason why 3D really got off of the ground. I wouldn’t be where I am today without that man. That’s a fact.
